Vote For The Polish Team Bus Slogan. Three Lousy Options To Choose From.
Remember the 2006’s World Cup team bus slogan? It was ‘Bialo Czerwoni: Waleczni i Niebezpieczni’ (Bialo Czerwoni: Courageous and Dangerous). Not so bad, but it didn’t survive the clash with reality. New tournament means new bus so we’re asked to choose a new slogan for our beloved team.
After our performance in Germany the writing on the coach looked, well, quite comical. We weren’t very courageous and we certainly weren’t dangerous. A lot of fans came forward with the proposition to repaint the bus after the first two games; slogans like ‘Tragical and Comical’, ‘Only Passing By’, ‘Pawel Janas’ Flying Circus’, ‘Titanic’ or ‘Looking For a Job’ well expressed fans’ disappointment.
This year the official Euro 2008 site is giving power to the people and lets us decide on the nature of the proud writing on our coach. Mind you, the choice is limited to three options: ‘…bo liczy sie sport i dobra zabawa!’ (… because only sport and good fun counts! ), ‘Odważne i niezwyciężone orły biało-czerwone’ (Brave and unbeaten red-and-white eagles!), ‘Biało-czerwonych nastał czas, zwycięstwo czeka nas’ (It’s Bialo-Czerwony’s time, the victory awaits us). Hmm, how to express my opinion about them? They’re just crap! The first option is the worst; what sport and what fun? It’s the competition and victory that counts! Tell me about fun when I lie depressed after the defeat against Ecuador, tell me about sport when I cry after the defeat against Korea. Only losers say that it’s only a sport. I understand sporstmen from San Marino, Liechtenstein or Andorra coming to the Olympics and saying that they’re are there to have fun and for the love of sport. But we are a professional football team, we’re there to compete. The two remaining options sound very polite. What I mean by polite is that they don’t have any balls. No charisma and nothing that would make fans remember them. Moreover, there isn’t anything that directly links those slogans with Poland and the national team. We’re not unbeaten and we are not knights straight from middle ages to sing that ‘the victory awaits us’. My favorite options from other countries? ‘It contains 11 million Greeks!’, ‘This coach is driven by the Will to Win’ (Portugal), ‘Russian hands are all for one! Russia’s proud of her sons!’ (love the military rhetoric), ‘Romania, we are proud of you and love you!’ (so sweet), ‘This year, YES!’ (Spain, simple but powerful), ‘Our Swiss watch says: It’s time to win’ (simply funny) and ‘Would passion of Turkey fit into this bus?’ (just imagine the mental Turkish supporters).
I reject to vote for any of the ‘Polish’ options. However, I’ve got my own ideas: ‘Feel our exhaust pipe’, ‘No sissies on board’, ‘Blitzkrieg: Polish style’, ‘Vienna: the hussars are back’ (some historical reference) or simply ‘Passion is our fuel’. Feel free to post any ideas in the comments.

Thanks Witold. I like yours about the eagle bus flying to victory and eagle being crowned. I wonder who came up with the three options we’re offered. They sound like created by a politically correct computer.

Vienna: the hussars are back
that would be sweet.

The Vienna one would be kick ass

My vote goes to “Hussars are back”
…. ‘Bialo Czerwoni: Waleczni i Niebezpieczni’… sound actually like a good slogan for the hooligans bus…
