Uefa Cup Group Stage: Lech Poznan-Nancy 2:2. Worth Watching For Bracigliano’s Antics.

November 8th, 2008 | By: tomasz | 14 Comments »

Lech Poznan should’ve officially be awarded the title for the most thrilling Polish team, their games are very hard to forget. This time they lost the lead twice, scored from 40 metres and failed to put the ball in an empty net in the dying minutes. All in one single game of football. Lech was aided by Nancy’s goalie, who mysteriously decided to calmly walk behind his goal line. With the ball!

Lech Poznan-Nancy 2:2 (Peszko 5′, Stilic 22′- Malonga 10′, Zerka 82′)
Lech: Turina – Wojtkowiak, Bosacki, Arboleda, Djurdjevic – Murawski (90. Kucharski), Injac (64. Bandrowski), Wilk – Peszko (78. Lewandowski), Stilic – Rengifo

So, what we’ve learnt from this game? Let’s have a look:

- tactically, Lech is not mature enough for this stage of Uefa Cup, there’s too much chaos in their game
- still, it’s this chaos that makes their games so interesting and enjoyable. They follow the ‘expect the unexpected’ doctrine
- at the same time, there isn’t much hope of going through; even an average French team has more quality players
- Rafal Murawski knows what to do with the ball and doesn’t lose his head under pressure
- Semir Stilic is just too good for the Polish league; I sense a big money transfer in the future
- Bartosz Bosacki can’t organize the defensive play
- Grzegorz Wojtkowiak is helpless when left one-on-one with a classy winger
- Slawomir Peszko is Marcin Zajac’s successor as the fastest Polish player. I’m sure he’ll earn his first cap in the winter friendlies
- never play Tomasz Bandrowski when ill
- can’t wait for the next Uefa Cup game (vs CSKA Moscow); I predict we’ll see at least five goals and, who knows, maybe some will be scored by Lech.

Bracigliano’s (a perfect name for an eccentric keeper) antics:

Highlights from the game:

It’s also a perfect occassion to remind everybody about one goal from the Citkomania era:

Other news: Slawomir Peszko wasn’t the only Polish goalscorer on Thursday. Jacek, surprise surprise, Krzynowek was on the scoresheet for Wolfsburg. He’s also in the squad for the next Bundesliga game. Who knows, maybe he’ll even get his first league game at the weekend.

You’re right. Lech Poznan is very exciting to watch. You almost don’t mind if they get behind because you know that they will create enough chances to score.

The future looks very promising. I like that their best players are in their early 20s.

jacek has to play with a heart on his chest? Would you really want to start for a team that plays with a heart on their chests? What are they, carebears? Good for the goal though.

^_that’s funny adas!

^ tomasz; MarcinO: For sure! – Lech Poznan highlights have been awesome! Definite ‘fire power’ as you described it before tomasz. Slawomir Peszko’s goal is one of the best I’ve seen recently, on any team or league highlight (George Best like move i darn say). Who was in goal for Lech? He really gave-up on first Nancy Lorraine goal. What is your take on Lech goal keeping? Has the ‘giving back goals” been a goalie or team issue?

It was just straight run and he failed to find the target. I don’t understand why you are so excited about one play that any decent striker should do. No fancy moves just run and high shot. Relax bro. If he would score from bicicle kick or some awesome volley please let me know. For now he is not right there yet.

^You clearly don’t understand the disastrous situation Poland’s in at the moment. So the fact that Ebi is improving, showing such play in the English Premier League, makes me very excited.

I saw you posting about this everywhere and I belive there was nothing special about this play. Look at Lewandowski. He makes plays like this every week but the difference is that he scores. I know it is only in Polish league but he shows some skills. I would disagree about “disastrous situation” statement. We have some promissing players and with time they will get better.

^True. However, having someone play regularly for a big league (England/Spain/Italy) would greatly help Poland. And Ebi has the best chance for that.
Oh, and we are in a terrible situation. We are ranked 32th, which is pretty sad, since we’re normally around 20th or so (we were 16th a year ago).
We have a bright future, yes, but right now it’s bad.
