To overcome Germany complex
The opening game against Germany seems to have crucial role in Poland success in Euro 2008. In this tough group where Germany and Croatia are amongst top candidates win the competition loosing first game is not the option. Our last two failure in World Cup proved how relevant and important is not be defeated in your first game. For average polish supporter there two jobs to be done: beat Germany and progress from the group stage, everything extra would be pleasant surprise.
We have never managed to score one goal more than our western neighbours, they remain the only football super power beyond our reach but we have chance to change history.
I can already imagine big screens in every pub, fans gather in big city squares expecting three points from that game and new era in polish football. How strong is support may illustrate fact that Leo Benhaker was voted the best coach and Ebi Smolarek, our top scorer in qualification, the second best polish sportsman in annual plebiscite organizes by The Sport Review

[...] Already thinking about that Euro 2008 game against Germany (Poland Blog) [...]

Your synopsis is correct.Poland must remove the German monkey off of their backs.A draw would be a good result but like we both agree it’s a victory that would take the big German monkey off their backs.Although the Polish people are resiliant and proud they have been suppressed (through history) that they are inferior and their great achievments have always been hidden or minimized through propoganda and other means. The 18 years of freedom for Poland as a country is just starting to erase the suppression. If you look at whats been accomplished in those years it is impressive.Luckily Poland was granted a gift from God in their inspirational coach.Leo truely has been a Godsend. The national team is more consistent and confident. He has them playing like a team.Qualifying for Euro 2008 and recieving the bid to co-host Euro 2012 with Ukraine was not expected and a pleasant surprise.Like Jesus Christ,Poland has had it’s share of suffering.God has a plan for Poland.Expect big things.

I would not say, that we have no chances in this tournament. Leaving aside whole political correctness and courtesy, we should advance into next phase with Germany, leaving behind Croatia and Austria. I think that victory over Germany lies in our capabilities, and I am really craving for it, so I predict 3 points for Poland in that clash. We will obviously lose some points, (maybe a draw with Croatia, or sensational lost to them) but we surely cannot be beaten by Austria. Yes, I know that before Ecuador we thought similarily, but things have changed. And we have to praise for clash with Czech Republic in 1/8 phase.

Anything can happen at this stage Conrad, as you know.A loss vs. Germany would be a blow,a tie would keep the dream alive,a win would raise spirits to new heights. So a draw would be a good result.A good result keeps hopes and spirits vs Austria where they will need at worst a draw then the last fixture vs Croatis which could have a knockout stage appearane riding on the outcome.
In your words a clah vs Czach Republic in the final 8 would be an honor,
Good Luck Conrad
