Three steps away from football heaven
It’s clear as it looks. Every final game in Group A is must win battle. After next forthcoming two european nights all teams will have the same number of games with another two left to play. Poland is facing Kazakhstan on saturday and no win is consider as a failure. Although, last encounter in previous atumn was close game with single goal from Ebi Smolarek and our opponent managed to mare Serbia’s visit to former soviet republic, this kind of football scenario is highly umbelievable. Droppping points would be like own goal score in dying minut. No excuses, no mistakes, no silly blundres. We top the group and want to stay there. Both sides have met two time so far and Poland won both games.
Coach Leo Benhaker keeps all cards close to his chest as usuall. He likes to suprise with his selection supporters and players as well. Actually this is Benhaker’s main feature. Only he knows his starting eleven, newspaper speculations in most cases are worthless. This time he call up for Tomasz Zahorski, unproven on international level, 22 year old striker from Gornik Zabrze, who still strugle to score for his club this season. Also included Kamil Kosowski (Wisla Krakow) last time seen in white and red at World Cup 2006.
The hottest topic in polish press is goalkeeper position. Artur Boruc’s (Celtig Glasgow) composure and calmness againts Portugal and Finland were vital. However, he tends to be reckless against underdogs how he proved in Scotland recently. Meanwhile his shadow Tomasz Kuszczak took advantage of Edvin Van Der Saar injury to protect Manchester United goal. There are suggestion that dutch man may be tempted to pressure Boruc by playing Kuszczak and giving the latter some encouragement at the same time.
The mood is good, no injuries, no bad vibes in polish camp. Only supporters are outraged by the highest tickets price in Europe. We all expect to be only two steps away from Europe on sunday morning.
