Summary: I watched the Wisla-Lech game mainly to check if the hype surrounding Robert Lewandowski at the moment is justified. It is. Lewandowski played as a lone striker for Lech and did great. I’m not only talking about the goals (though they’re obviously crucial), but about movement, aggresiveness, speed and the ability to keep the ball. I’m really surprised that Leo voiced concerns about him playing alone upfront. Lewandowski didn’t have problems with playing with his back to the goal. He was able to pass the ball to wingers, wait for teammates, earn a foul or just dribble past defenders. The guy is incredibly dynamic. At 20 he can only get better and better. We should, however, bear in mind that Lewandowski won’t play in each single game as Franz Smuda uses rotation in attack (Lewandowski, Rengifo, Reiss). I think that’s a good idea, let’s give the guy a rest from time to time, he’s still too young to play twice a week. Other Lech national team players (Wojtkowiak, Bandrowski, Murawski) also did much better than for Poland. Murawski is Lech’s jersey is just a different kind of player; confident, taking risk, shouting at others. It’s such a shame that he loses these abilities when playing with an eagle on his chest. Bandrowski was also playing a more offensive role than in national team colours. As always, he kept the ball well, but also took part in many counters and scored after Pawelek’s mistake. As for Wisla players, Pawel Brozek had a rather poor game. He wasn’t given enough support from the midfield and was unable to create anything all by himself. Rafal Boguski was one of the most active Wisla players, especially in the second half. The goal he scored was no coincidence. Wojciech Lobodzinski, on the other hand, is one of the poorest Wisla players at the moment; he poses no threat at all. In such form he shouldn’t be considered by Leo as worthy of wearing a national team jersey.
A Polish star of the Bundesliga is rising in front of our eyes. Jakub Blaszczykowski was one of the heroes of a derby game against Schalke. He was just too good for Schalke defenders, there was no other way to stop him but constant fouling. Kuba ‘earned’ two red cards for Schalke players and a penalty for Dortmund. What I like most about Blaszczykowski is that his style of play is so unPolish. By this I mean that he’s a dynamic dribbler, a type of player we associate with South America, Spain or Portugal. We had some good players in the Bundesliga in the last decade (Matysek, Hajto, Waldoch, Krzynowek in Leverkusen, Wichniarek or Ebi), but I think Kuba may be the most influential Pole since Piotr Nowak in TSV 1860 Munich. This is a season where he should earn a star status at Dortmund.
Something bad is happening to Dariusz Dudka. First the drinking and now losing a place in Auxerre’s starting lineup. This was Dudka’s secong game in a row on the bench. Something that I really didn’t expect at the start of the season. Dudka did well in Euros, Auxerre paid good money for him, he played in almost all friendlies. Unfortunately, he was far from impressive in the league games. Will this be another case of a Polish failure abroad or does Dudka just need more time to switch to a different style? Let’s hope for the latter, but still his situation is quite worrisome.
Marcin Wasilewski scored for Anderlecht. Wasyl was well known for his scoring abilities in the past but has lately failed to confirm them. Good that he’s finally reminded everybody how dangerous he can be in the box. I demand a replay against the Czechs.
Finally, Lukasz Gargula has returned from injury. In the wake of Roger’s poor form that’s a very good information. Let’s keep an eye on him.
Highlights:
Wisla vs Lech with goals from Robert Lewandowski, Murawski, Bandrowski and Boguski
Kuba Blaszczykowski vs Schalke
Marcin Wasilewski scores for Anderlecht

‘boiskowemu chuligaństwu mówimy ‘dość!”, hehehe, who’s that guy on the mike?

i meant ‘mic’ of course.
by the way, let’s hope it’s not an opening of the season for kuba in the bundesliga. it looked like they hunted him, may it be only in the derby match… i don’t think błaszczykowski was all that key player of the game, no goals, no proper assist, but still he’s important for the team, hopefully finishing in the top 5, maybe 3. that’s great for a pole at this stage of career.

After watching Tottenham sink to Aston Villa i sincerely believe that Wisla has a decent chance of defeating the Spurs, especially at home. Good for Lewandowski! Perhaps there IS a young crop of players slowly growing into their shoes.

When I visited the Auxerre forum a couple weeks ago, the fans were somewhat concerned about Dudka, the general feeling seemed to be that he wasn’t really convincing in any position.. when they played him as a defensive midfielder they thought he might be better as a CB, when they played him there he looked out of position as well… They didn’t say he was terrible, just that he didn’t really excel at anything… However, they pointed out that it might simply be a case of him needing more time to settle in.

I’ve heard that now Arboleda wants to play for Poland. I don’t know if he is our nt ready, but he use to be a defensive force in the Ekstraklasa. I’d much rather have Inaki Astiz though..

If they were born or raised in Poland or have some ancestral connection to Poland, fine, but calling up foreigners who have no ties to our country and can barely put together a sentence in Polish, well that’s just going to turn our NT into even more of a laughing stock than it already is… I know we already did that with a couple players but if we ever want to become a self-respecting football nation, this has got to stop.
Has anyone seen Borysiuk in action? It appears he’s been playing the last few games in Legia’s starting eleven, that’s pretty impressive for a 17 year old…

@gregorio
Yeah, the guy is great, he seems to have a genuine love for the bundesliga and Kuba in particular. I didn’t watch the game, but Blaszczykowski received 2,5 note from Kicker, which is very high in their rankings. Still, his style of play is quite injury prone.
@M.Zurawski
Ok, but have you watched Wisla against Lech;)
@zaraza
The ability to play on numerous positions was always Dudka’s advantage, maybe this time it acts as a disadvantage. He was never impressive, but was doing his share in most of the games. Auxerre had supposedly scouted him for a long time, they had to learn about his abilities (and shortcomings as well). I think it’s too early to write him off.
The Arboleda case is only a result of journalists’ looking for something to write, at least at the moment. He just said that he’d like to play for Poland when asked about it. To my knowledge, nobody from the nt staff confirmed this interest. I saw Borysiuk once or twice this season, he’s a skillful holding midfielder. He plays very maturely for a 17 year old. Jan Urban says, however, that he’s too young to play in every single game.

I agree with the Gargula choice, I like him a lot and feel he should be given a chance if Roger can’t get his shit together. Roger has been flat and lifeless and we need more from that position.
@M.Zurawski
As much as I am worried about Wisla’s current state, I feel fairly confident that Skorza can correct some issues and the boys will bounce back against Tottenham. I can only hope for a draw IN London, but with the way Tottenham seem to be struggling it could be a dream day for Biala Gwiazda
@zaraza
personally i never really rated Dudka that highly after his injury. when he was with us at Wisla before his injury he was a pretty good player, but once he came back from injury in the spring Diaz and Piotr Brozek looked better than him as LB, and Dudka has always looked lost as a CB, so occasionally he would get some time as a DM which even then he wouldn’t impress me much. i think Dudka was a damn good player before his injury last fall, but ever since i don’t think he has ever truly recovered. i don’t understand why people have still rated him so highly over performances practically over a year ago. hopefully though since he is young, maybe he could figure something out. because it isn’t good for our NT one of our better defenders sitting the bench Zurawski style in a foreign league
as for Arboleda… IF and IF we had a foreign defender called up to represent us i’d much rather have Hernani who is younger, and a little bit bigger, and could play for us for a few years instead of just qualifiers and maybe one competition. Hernani is very strong and talented and has dropped off the radar with Kielce being relegated. he was supposedly marrying a Polish girl too so we wouldn’t have to do the shady paperwork we did with Roger either. foreign clubs were showing interest in the summer but were trying to low ball Kielce for his services. supposedly Lechia is interested in him in the league which would be a good transfer for him

btw… quick question. does anyone know how Leo’s visit to talk to Boruc went? supposedly he went to Scotland for the weekend to have talks with Boruc. we could really use a positive talk, i’m assuming it went well since the media hasn’t really jumped all over this in a bad way from the lack of articles i have seen.

That would be interesting. Leo as head of the PZPN.

Hi, it’s your blogger here. I’m moving flats so there won’t be any posts till the weekend. Sorry about that. Enjoy today’s Uefa Cup games.

Have fun dude. I saw those fouls against Blaszczykowski and I don’t think those were provoked. I wonder why he is being targeted by Bundesliga players? In almost every game he plays he is being harshly fouled at least once or twice. That is not a good sign for national team.

i guess bayern is gonna need boruc soon. after what rensing has been showing.

Come on Robert Lewandowski you can do this. You do not play like Mariusz Lewandowski. Polish soccer players needs to play well and score goals.
