brozSummary: Maciej Skorza’s Wisla is in crisis. They’ve already managed to lose three most important games of the season: the ones against Legia and Lech and the derby encounter against Cracovia. Wisla started the season in a spectacular fashion, but now they’re only three points ahead of Legia and Ruch. What was supposed to be an easy title defense for the Biala Gwiazda now seems to be a difficult task. Pawel Brozek and Patryk Malecki both lost the flair they presented at the beginning of the season. Broziu has played the last couple of games on painkillers which proved to be a bad idea as he’s failed to pose any sort of threat in the derby game against Cracovia. Patryk Malecki is not yet ready to become a true leader of Wisla’s offensive line, he needs the support from Brozek to perform well. Without the last season’s golden boot winner the reigning champions look rather poor upfront. Rafal Boguski has just returned from an injury, but isn’t prepared to play more than a quarter a game. Lukasz Gargula was supposed to be this missing piece that would take Wisla to a higher level, but he’s still suffering from an injury he picked up at the beginning of 2009. He even played in two or three games throughout the last month, but his knee proved too week and we won’t see him earlier than in 2010. After a good start the Slovenian Andraz Kirm suddenly stopped to shine making Wisla a team without wings. It’s not even worthwhile to waste time and space on Wojciech Lobodzinski’s form, a player who is now probably as far from the national team as I am. I’m sure than now Maciej Skorza really wishes he was wiser in the summer and kept Andrzej Niedzielan in Krakow. The player who was fired by Wisla during the last transfer window is now Ruch Chorzow’s best scorer and one of the most influential players in the whole Ekstraklasa. It’s really hard to understand why he wasn’t given a single start by Skorza last season. Add injuries of Arkadiusz Glowacki and Radoslaw Sobolewski and Wisla is not the powerhouse they seemed to be only a month ago. The truth is that we don’t currently have a team in the Ekstraklasa that would rise above the average at best level of our local league. I just can’t wait for the next year’s Champions League qualifiers.

Lech Poznan started playing a bit better. A lot of this is due to Robert Lewandowski’s fine performances. He scored a brace in the game against Ruch Chorzow, the second goal especially was a one that you rarely see on Polish pitches as it was a finish typical for the Europe’s top leagues. Lewy together with Slawomir Peszko is pushing Lech forward in the table and makes the league more pleasant to watch. If Kolejorz manages to keep the 5-6 points distance behind Wisla they will surely try to strengthen the team in winter (Jodlowiec and Glik are on their wish list). Lewandowski should stay in Poland for the next half a year, but expect him to put in a transfer request after that. I think that summer is going to be a perfect time for him to move; I can see the breaking of Ekstraklasa’s transfer fee record on the cards. Apart from Lewy, another player that attracts a lot of interest is Maciej Sadlok. All the Polish top clubs are interested in him, but the player’s price tag has risen significantly after his fine performance against Canada and praise from coach Franz Smuda. As far as I’m concerned, it would be best for the player to spend a little more time at Ruch where he has a place in the starting lineup. I’m afraid that Sadlok, talented as he is, may not yet be ready to deal with the pressure at a big club. He looked a bit overmotivated in the game against Lech.

You probably already know that Wojciech Szczesny moved to Division 1’s Brentford on a month’s loan. The local manager guaranteed him seven first team starts which should be a good experience for our goalkeeping starlet. Grzegorz Krychowiak, on the other hand, moved to Division 3’s Stade Reims in France (thanks for the news Zaraza). I find it a bit surprising that he failed to find an employer in a higher division. I recently read an interview with Leo Beenhakker where our former coach states that he considers Krychowiak one of the most talented players from our U 21 team. Supposedly, he was the only player picked up for praise by the Dutch youngsters after they trashed our hopefuls in the recent U 21 game. Come on Leo, if he’s so good then bring him to Feyenoord, that would be the best thing you would have done for Polish football in the last year.

Ireneusz Jelen is at the top of French Ligue 1 with Auxerre, though he failed to impress in their last game. Still better than Dariusz Dudka, who regularly spends games on the bench if all the best Auxerre players are available. Rafal Murawski became the Russian champion with Rubin Kazan, his first ever title. Hopefully next season his achievements at Rubin will be more praise worthy and he won’t only be a champion on paper. Muras is crucial in Smuda’s tactics, we should all pray for him to do well in Russia. Artur Wichniarek is still to score in the Bundesliga whereas Ebi Smolarek still hasn’t found himself a new club. I won’t even write about the clubs that are supposedly interested in him; I’ll believe in his return when I see him signing the contract.

Highlights: Michal Zewlakow scores, unbelievable

Two goals by Robert Lewandowski in the game against Ruch

Maciej Zurawski scores only the first! goal of the season

Anyone found Grzegorz Rasiak’s goal?

Another interesting bit of news: THREE 17 year olds were handed their professional debut this weekend in the Ekstraklasa, Michal Zyro for Legia, Marcin Kaminski for Lech, and Sebastian Leszczak for Wisla. They only spent 3-5 minutes on the pitch each but nevertheless it’s encouraging news. Polish clubs tend to be very reluctant to give a chance to youth but the situation has definitely improved in the last year or two. Most clubs in Poland now have at least one U-21 player in their starting lineup.

Zurawski’s goal a penalty kick, not suprised. Apaprently the Reading forum said Rasiak won every header and took his goal very well. But they said he can’t last a full match. I say Rasiak gets called up to the national team as an impact sub. If its 75 mins and still aint winning bring in Rasiak and change tactics to set peices to Rasiak. Just an idea since we’re having so much trouble scoring goals…

I say don’t call up Rasiak. I don’t think he’s ever done anything useful for the nt. Only a waste of space that a better younger striker should be filling.

Ok look at the NTs record when Rasiak plays I guarantee you it’s better than when Brozek or even Jelen or Lewandowski play. The man scores goals give him a shot if he keeps knocking them in in the Championship it’s not a bad league. And our set pieces have been really poor recently we need someone who can make a good run in the box for a header now that Wasileski is out for an extended period, maybe forever.

Rasiak? He’s too old and slow. He’s only getting slower. I don’t see him playing until 2012 anyway. The set pieces were bad because of poor deliveries into the box. That will change when Smuda will have more time to work with the team. Obraniak and Roger are more than capable of producing quality set pieces.

Just because someone scored a goal recently does not mean he should be given another chance at the NT. You’re looking for consistency. Not a random name that just happened to score. In Rasiak’s case, he has not scored for a while. One goal does not erase the past or the more recent poor performances. Don’t tell me you would want to see Krzynowek back if he scored next weekend.

No no no to Rasiak, yes he’s decent at club level but never did anything worth mentioning for the NT, just like Wichniarek.

Apparently the PZPN will start working together with the German FA, anyone know what this is going to be about?

Guys im front England and seriously think we should use Rasiak’s current form!!! Ive seen him time and again bullying defenses right before my eyes!! he knows where to be at the right time, something that he can share with the youngster in the squad! hes by far the best player in the championship at the moment. For Reading he is the central core of the team, every single time they get possession, they look up to see where Rasiak is and fling the ball in his general direction, and he 90% of the time knocks it down or takes it under control, n hes sooo lethal with crosses into the danger area! if he can perform in fast paced English football, he can definitely perform for Poland

p.s. don’t forget his assist ability…Portugal, second goal for Smolarek!

I really want to say, anyone who says NO NO NO to Rasiak, haven’t seen him play! read my comment!

Lets just go through this. So our nt has something around 5 strikers each call up. We can all agree that Brozek, Jelen, and R. Lewy are the for sures. This leaves two spots open, the players that should be called up (younger players that will build our team up for Euro 2012) are off the top of my head Janczyk, Malecki, Piszczek, Grosicki and if Smuda can get him Acquafresca.

Now lets look at Rasiak. He’s already 30 which means he’ll totally blow by 2012. So what if he’s the star of Reading? It’s Reading. They are currently 20th in the Championship, whoopy. He’s scored against such powerhouse clubs as Watford, Coventry City, Blackpool, and well the list doesn’t go on because that’s it.

Like I said before he’s never done anything for the nt. His last cap was against Serbia in 2007 and his last goal was in 2006 against the mighty Faeroe Islands. An assist again Portugal? Well sure that’s true but if you watch his pass there is nothing special about it. Anyone other than a blind person could have and would have done the same, which means he just passed the ball and was lucky Smolarek scored, so that he could say he got an assist.

“Zewlakow: 7 – Is there nothing this Pole can’t do? Solid as a full-back, solid as a defensive midfielder, and now solid in the centre of defence. Outshone Mellberg at the heart of defence.”

Hmmm…

Rasiak has not scored a goal for the NT in a “points” match.
All of his 8 goals are from friendly games.
His best game was against Portugal in Chorzow back in 2006 (no goal).
Below is a list of NT games Rasiak scored in.

The reson the Smolarek Rasiak paring worked so well in Euro 2008 qualifiers was cause Rasiak was the tough big player who heads the ball and Smolarek was the quick striker. Lewy, Jelen, Janczyk, Grosiki all these are fast strikers not the jan koller type Rasiak is. All I’m say is since Smuda is testing out players he might as well replace useless Brozek with Rasiak once and see how it goes. And Rasiak just recenly started scring his goals for reading cause it took time for him to jel to the new team. Ever since Reading sold their best striker to Wolverhampton Rasiak has become the new leading striker. He’s the one who pulled em out of the religation zone. Just cause a player is old doesnt mean theyre useless. As you see Zewlakow is doing well in Greece and the Champions League. Rasiak can teach a thing or two. And it is a fact that most matches Rasiak played for Poland, Poland went onto win even if he din’t score any goals.

@ MarcinO

I said give him a shot if he keeps knocking goals in. His goal scoring record isn’t that bad with Reading this season anyways. Rasiak isn’t a random name, he’s one of our more experienced club players, and he at least had the balls to leave Poland unlike some players. I know that he has a poor reputation on for his performances on the NT, but his size and finishing ability are undeniable. If we can’t score goals, might as well give him a shot. If you’d rather see Brozek & Co. keep putting 0 next to Poland in the scoreline, thats fine. Anyhow, I’m glad this decision is up to Smuda who has a lot more sense than some people.

Tommy – Zewlakow is a different player during club, even in continental competitions. He played decent enough against Arsenal a month or two ago at fullback. Most of the action was on his side of the field (was that the plan?) but Olympiakos held firm until the 70th minute when he looked gassed and the rest of his teammates just couldn’t keep up with the pace of the game anymore. Yet, for some reason IMHO during international play he just looks slow. He could mark Arshavin for the majority of that game, yet he’s a tortoise and always on his heels during international games. Something I can’t figure out.

Are we really talking about Rasiak? The same guy that couldn’t score at Southampton for two years and only now put three goals in? Really? And how many games did he play in after that Portugal game? Not many if I remember correctly.

Southhampton is a pit for polish players. Both Sagan and Rasiak did great their first seasons but after that it went downhill. Rasiak was loaned out last seaon to Watford where he scored a bunch of goals and Watford wanted to buy him but Southampton were too greedy and wanted more money than Watford wanted to pay. Reading’s coach knew Rasiak from before so he payed the scum the money for Rasiak. However Sagan is left to rot at the “saints” not even able to make the bench cause their new coach and him don’t get along. I think Sagan is gonna return to the Ekstraklasa in the winter and finish up his career there. Until I say another capable striker like Ebi used to be I say Sumda keep testing different strikers including giveing Rasiak a go.
And I wish Kuba would try to score goal cause he always seems to be reluctant and even Borussia’s fans are saying him and Valdez ned to step up. It doesn’t happen often but when Kuba scores a goal its always amazing. I remember I waas also suprised during I think the North Ireland game whenRoger hit a volley from far out and thinking I never knew Roger had that in him. The problem is I think or midfielders rely too much on our strikers and don’t try themselves( with the exception of Dudka and Bald Lewy who just cannon ball it). Rybus steped up and I think the rest of the midfielders need to try to get goals as well and not just assists. Just look at Man utds game over the weekend.

Kuszczak has gotten a number of opportunities during his years at MU, sorry but he’s just not good enough. He has great reflexes but that’s not enough to be #1 at a top club. Kuszczak just doesn’t inspire confidence in his defenders, his kicking and dealing with crosses would have to improve.. even his handling is inconsistent. I think he’s made very little progress over the past few years and Szczesny will probably surpass him by Euro 2012. Kuszczak has no one but himself to blame, he chose to waste all these years on the bench while most of his peers were out getting regular games.

ESPN is reporting that Avram Grant has already been offered the Portsmouth manager’s job.
Didn’t Avran want to be the Polish NT coach?
I do like Smuda but my question is how many Polish coaches were considered for this job?
According to the PZPN the coaching in Poland in just as good as anywhere else in Europe so I assume there must have been some coaches considered from the EK.
Avram has work to do because he is taking over a last place team but he is only 4 points below the relegation line & there is a lot of games left.

In the USA we are celebrating a national holiday called Thanksgiving Day.
Even though some of you may not be celebrating this holiday, it is a time we get together with family & friends & give thanks for what you have.
I wish everybody the best.

Well Sir Alex played a whole reserve team and they lost but they have a buffer game. I think SAF wanted to save Kuszczak for the more important league game instead of the useless champions league match since theyre already thru. Since VDS is injured Foster got to make himself look like a fool with the MU reserves and Kuszczak will get to play with the first team on the weekend. So I think Kuszczak gets the better deal unless VDS recovers by then.
