Song For Polish Fans……By An English Bloke.
Another proof that fans in Britain will support Poland in this year’s Euros. A guy called Rupert Slade wrote a song that is to help British fans link with Bialo Czerwoni. Rupert lived in Poland for a year and seems to have fallen in love with our beautiful country. I won’t comment on the quality of the song as I’m aware that my dreamed of metal song for Polish fans will probably never happen.
You can listen to the song here.
Lyrics:
Polska Song
(Come back Tomaszewski – All is forgiven)
Sitting in the pub
The final whistle’s still ringing in my ears
All our hopes are dashed
And summer laughter’s turned to tears
In the final game,
All we needed was a draw,
But Beckham couldn’t bend it,
And now three lions roar no more
But I’m shaken from my blues -
The sound of singing full of pride.
Haven’t you heard the news?
Poland’s gone and qualified
Polska, Polska, naprzod Polska,
You’re our boys in white and red.
Polska, Polska, Come on Poland
Go where others fear to tread.
From London to Warsaw
From The King’s Head to The Swan
Polska, Polska, naprzod Polska
Together we are strong.
Don’t look so down
Says Magda pulling me another beer,
Wipe away that frown
And find yourself another team to cheer.
Whatever colours we wear
Our passion is the same
‘Cos football’s here to share
So come and join us in the beautiful game
Well my team are firing blanks
And the summer fills me with woe
I may not know Krakow from Gdansk
But I’m willing to give it a go
Polska, Polska, naprzod Polska,
You’re our boys in white and red.
Polska, Polska, Come on Poland
Go where others fear to tread.
From London to Warsaw
From The King’s Head to The Swan
Polska, Polska, naprzod Polska
Together we are strong.
Somebody knows what the Swan can symbolize?
ah oui. the swan, just like ‘the kings head’ is pub chain in UK just like walkabout or so…u should know that ;D

Haha love it! This line’s sure to be quoted around: “Wipe away that frown

Anyone happens to know if the author is in any way related to the Slade (you know, “cum on feel the noise”, “far, far away”…)? I doubt it, but who knows…
the song is a bit embarassing, but I appreciate it:) and – Tomasz – I guess the metal one you dream about wouldn’t fit any better;)

I agree, the song brings a smile to a face. Who knows, maybe it’ll be sang in the pubs around Britain, during a drunken pub chain (thanks aalms, you seem to be an expert;)). Gregorio, I’d go for a metal version as it’s the kind of music that gives you energy and that’s what fans need during the game.

here are my reasons for supporting Poland and writing the song with my musical friend will. As well as spending four happy years in Poland and having lots of polish friends
1) There are at least 500,000 in Uk and we like you and you are big part of noughties Britain
2) The Poles are a passionate and romantic lot, despite overcoming huge hurdles in history. You have the blitz spirit..
3) You invented the x ray and briefly turned that mad woman Thatcher into a trade unionist
4) You like talking a lot about air pressure. Is that anything to do with Copernicus?
5) Your sausages are better than ours.
6) You have some of the most beautiful women in the world.
7) Like us you have spent years being disappointed in your football team
Like us,You are country of legends that never give up.. For you Lech Walesa( should have stayed a legend) . For us most of our prime ministers.should have given up before they did.
9) We both are slighlty embarrased by our less savoury national supporters.
10) You are going to beat Germany and Croatia for us
11) Because we have created a fine song to get behind Poland.

I call the style of the song “Billy Bragg meets the Polka King”. Pretty good effort.

Thanks Rupert for the praise of our nation, it’s obvious that the song was written from the heart. I especially agree with points 5) and 6), girls and food was what I missed the most while living abroad. And Lech Walesa will always be a legend, no matter what some people say. I just hope that our romantic hearts won’t be left broken once again.

Oh mate, you made my day. In a very hilarious way, that song is a piece of art (or something like that!)
