Selling Artur Boruc.

boruc-shouting.jpgLet’s forget for a moment about our horrific performance in the last friendly and talk about something more pleasant. And what can be more joyful than transfer speculation? Artur Boruc is slowly becoming a too big fish for the Celtic’s pond and the press is using this opportunity to sell him to various European teams.

Artur himself adds fuel to fire when he openly states that he would like to try something new. I don’t blame him, he’s won everything he could with Celtic and he needs a new challenge. It was clearly visible during the Champions League’s round of sixteen that the Celts can’t compete with the top European clubs. It was also clearly visible that Boruc is good enough to play for those top European clubs.

The oldest transfer rumours concerning Boruc are those about an interest from Arsenal, Tottenham and Milan. The most outdated, of course, is the one that Arsene Wenger wants to bring the ‘Holy Goalie’ to London. Manuel Almunia is having a decent season and I don’t think the Arsenal management is looking for his replacement. Jens Lehmann is leaving at the end of the season but the Gunners already have a great prospect as his successor: Lukasz Fabianski. Fabian is heralded as one of the most talented goalies in Europe and, sooner or later, he’ll be given a chance in the first team. He’s already receiving great reviews from the Arsenal’s goalkeeper coaches. The Tottenham rumour seems to be the one that is circulating rather among the fans than in the press. The thing is that Juande Ramos desperately needs a new keeper, Paul Robinson has been crap this season and Radek Cerny didn’t make the most of his chance to replace him. As far as I’m concerned, this is the best option for Boruc; a rich team with big potential, a great manager and a huge fanbase. And they are playing in Europe next season. Milan is also always shorlisted as a potential destination for Artie. First of all, because they know what he’s capable of (he almost single-handedly stopped their CL run last year). Secondly, they’re the only top European team with a really shitty goalie- Dida. It seems obvious that they’re going to buy a new nr 1 for next season, however they’re concentrating on the Italian market; they’re desperate to land Sebastian Frey from Fiorentina.

boruc-flag.jpgNow, for the newest rumours. More than a week ago Daily Record wrote that Bayern Munich are ready to pay £10M for the Celtic legend. Well, it all looks quite logical, Oliver Kahn won’t scare us anymore in the next season so the German giants will need a new, classy goalie. However, the guys at the Daily Record didn’t know that Michael Rensing is already lined up as Kahn’s replacement. Rensing was promised a one-season chance by Uli Hoeness, so the Boruc’s Bayern rumour was quickly denied by the German officials. I think that the whole idea of Bayern’s interest stems from Lukas Podolski’s opinion that he would like to play with Artur in the same team someday. That’s not enough to make the info valid. The latest club reported to be interested in the Polish nr 1 is Aston Villa. The rumour looks very nice, Scott Carson is returning to Liverpool at the end of the season and Thomas Soerensen is unsettled at the Villa Park. Martin O’Neill is a former Celtic manager so he is probably scouting the SPL on everyday basis. Moreover, he’s already purchased Stilian Petrov and Shaun Maloney from Celtic. There haven’t been any denial on Aston Villa’s side yet. I think that it would be a good choice for Boruc; under O’Neill Villa is becoming better and better with every season. As the transfer to one of the European powerhouses is unlikely to happen Boruc should consider offers from the mid-table teams with a view to improve, just like Tottenham or Aston Villa. What do you reckon?

Just think of the controversies Boruc could make in tottenham. 4 huge London derby a year (at least), a few smaller ones, the “jewish” identity of the club, ha! That would be his cup of tea.
Aston villa doesn’t seem so interesting an option but I’d rather see him there than in the province of football, which SPL is when compared to EPL. Nevertheless, I really wish he would end up in some top club, the Villans could in that case be just a temporal option.

Tomek, how do you like the news about Darek W.? I think if he and Korona are in it, every 1st div. team is as well. Now I understand the protests of the relegated teams. When the abolition is announced, half the league will get away with corruption, and they all know that.

I know that not everyone will agree but i sincerely wish Boruc will stay in the U.K. Mind you, not Scotland. I don’t want to see him in the Seria A. Tottenham would fit like a glove. Maybe they would stop leaking so many goals, and it seems he would get on well with Berbatov and Keane. Maybe even make peace with Hutton. :)

@gregorio
Yeah, Boruc is an extremely media ‘friendly’ player. If he’s capable of sparking controversy in Scotland imagine what he would do with the aid of English tabloids. Plus Tottenham is a very close covered club so probably his popularity would be even bigger. I’m sure he’d end up both on most loved and most hated player lists. Aston Villa is on the rise at the moment so it’s one of the best options. Remember that all of the English big 4 clubs have their goalie position covered. Dariusz W. case is a very surprising one. He makes an impressiom of such an elegant and eloquent manager and it may turn out that he’s just a cheat. But it’s strange for me as he still managed to win two Polish league titles that nobody considers suspicious. It looks that the players organized the whole bribing procedure in the 3rd division, but he surely knew about it. That’s the end of a beautiful career. I hope that our other talents like Skorza or Michniewicz are not involved in any of these. And the abolition is just a matter of time.
@M.Zurawski
I also hope he’ll stay in the U.K. I think that only the clubs from the Premiership would be able to pay something around 10M for him (as was the case with Craig Gordon). Other European clubs won’t pay as much for a player from SPL, especially a goalie.

I dobut if the players did the cheating on their own, I’m mean how? for a bottle of booze? Maybe the management was different then, and that would be why the current one is so outraged and strict towards the players.
Wdowczyk may have won the titles fair (if such things ever happen in our league). His recent behaviour shows he still has some dignity and self respect. But I don’t mean the fact that he coached Polonia 3 hours ago. That tells a lot about the dignity of the club’s officials.

“That’s the end of a beautiful career.”

Not in this world, it seems.

He admitted to taking part in the corruption so, obviously, he knew about everything. That’s a huge let down. For now, the press only mentions Korona’s 3rd div season, but remember that they were promoted from the 2nd div in the next season. I think that the case is not closed. It seems that the players were all involved in this proccess, they resolved to bribing even though they had by far the strongest squad in the 3rd div. That just shows the mentality of our footballers. For me Wdowczyk’s involvement in the last game was scandalous, especially as he pleaded guilty. Hopefully that’s the end of his career at the highest level: national team, Legia, Wisla, Lech or the new Slask. I also don’t want to watch his face in the TV; he lost all credibility.

The rumour mill is beginning to grind early this year. I read in two separate articles this morning Artur being tied to the Spurs, and Robinson being sold off. Supposedly they are keen on bringing in some names throughout the summer and contending next season. It would be nice. But then again after watching their game with Atalanta, i’m not sure who needs him more. :)

In a perfect scenario the Spurs and Milan can have a desperate bidding war and he’ll sell for twenty million pounds. :)

I think that Boruc will be one of the best ‘available’ goalies in the summer. Ramos will surely try to strenghthen his squad with players of his own choice. Whether he’s interested in Boruc we can’t tell. The purchase of Hutton would indicate that he follows the SPL. I’m not sure whether Milan is ready to splash a lot of cash on a goalie. On the other hand, they need a summer revolution in their squad.

Well one major thing to think about is that Boruc wont play in the champions league anymore. Ya sure Tottenham will get in the UEFA Cup but really no one really cares about who wins it or plays in it, it is always just one club that dominates in it like Sevilla last year and Bayern now. But yes hands down its better for him to go to London then Milan. For one of the top teams of Euorope they just suck. They have huge stars like Kaka or Pato but still blow, and buying one goalkeeper definatly wont solve their problems.
