Preliminary Call Ups For The September Qualifiers. All In The Family.

No big changes in our squad before the World Cup qualifiers in September. Leo decided to put his trust in the players that he already knows. The only significant addition is Seweryn Gancarczyk from Lech Poznan. The 31 player strong squad after the jump.

Goalkeepers: Artur Boruc (Celtic Glasgow), Lukasz Zaluska (Celtic Glasgow), Sebastian Przyrowski (Polonia Warsaw), Wojciech Szczesny (Arsenal London)

Defenders: Marcin Wasilewski (Anderlecht Brussels), Jakub Rzezniczak (Legia Warsaw), Michal Zewlakow (Olympiakos Pireus), Tomasz Jodlowiec (Polonia Warsaw), Dariusz Dudka (AJ Auxerre), Bartosz Bosacki (Lech Poznan), Piotr Polczak (Cracovia), Jacek Krzynowek (Hannover 96), Marcin Komorowski (Legia Warsaw), Seweryn Gancarczyk (Lech Poznan), Paweł Golanski (Steaua Bucharest)

Midfielders: Mariusz Lewandowski (Shakhtar Donetsk), Lukasz Tralka (Polonia Warsaw), Rafal Murawski (Rubin Kazan), Roger Guerreiro (Legia Warsaw), Ludovic Obraniak (OSC Lille), Tomasz Bandrowski (Lech Poznan), Grzegorz Krychowiak (Girondins Bordeaux), Jakub Blaszczykowski (Borussia Dortmund), Wojciech Lobodzinski (Wisla Krakow), Slawomir Peszko (Lech Poznan), Jakub Wilk (Lech Poznan)

Strikers: Robert Lewandowski (Lech Poznan), Marek Saganowski (FC Southampton), Pawel Brozek (Wisla Krakow), Euzebiusz Smolarek (?), Lukasz Sosin (Anorthosis Famagusta)

I think it’s clear that Wojciech Szczesny will be axed as far as goalkeepers are concerned. Other three keepers are far more experienced than Wojtek; it’s only a sign from Leo that he considers the young Szczesny an incredibly talented player. The inclusion of Seweryn Gancarczyk, as well as Pawel Golanski, means that Leo is not entirely sure about playing Jacek Krzynowek on the left back position. He wants to have backup players in case he lost his trust in Krzyniu. I think that the Thursday’s game against FC Brugge will be decisive for Gancarczyk. If the Lech left back proves that he’s good enough to withstand pressure from a European level opposition then it means that he can do it against Northern Ireland or Slovenia as well. In other case Gancarczyk will lose the chance to finally make his mark in the national team. I don’t know anything about how Pawel Golanski is doing in Romania, but the fact that he’s not naturally left footed diminishes his chances to be considered for our most in need position. I don’t think Leo treats him as a rival for Marcin Wasilewski on the right side of our defense. Apart from that, I’d like to see Slawomir Peszko included in the final squad; I just think he’s a player that can improve our game from the bench when need arises (I’m not so sure about Lobodzinski). What’s your opinion on the call ups?

Janczyk unfortunately is having problems getting playing time at Lokeren this season… CSKA should recall him and send him to another club.

Kolodziejczak says he’ll make a decision when he’s 21.

Cywka’s career is going nowhere, he’s 21 and not even making the bench at Wigan…

Piszczek – he must be out of form, he’s not playing as much as he did towards the end of last season.

Krychowiak – as usual, didn’t even make the bench for Bordeaux. He still has some time though to get a loan move to Ligue 2 or Poland.

Szczesny – strangely, Mannone appears to be ahead of him in the hierarchy even though Arsenal fans were in agreement that Szczesny looked better in pre-season

Adam Kokoszka – his move to Serie B isn’t working out, spent the entire match on the bench…

Augustyn debuted in Serie A today but he got sent off in the 78th minute (2 yellow cards).

Positives:

Michal Janota – 66 minutes and a goal in the Dutch second division

David Blacha – debuted this weekend in the 2nd Bundesliga, 24 minutes versus RW Oberhausen, he is only 18 years of age
http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/commentary?id=273448&league=GER.2&cc=5901

Bartosz Salamon – 25 minutes in Serie B

Radoslaw Majewski – 90 minutes versus Queens Park Rangers. He played well, got an 8/10:

Anybody see that Blazej got red carded in his first game in Serie A this year? Was it justified. Anyway, nice to see him starting on a team in Serie A.

Thanks for the updates. I wonder how Matuszek’s development will be affected by what he went through from a confidence point of view. But I’m sure it is better to have tried and failed, than not have tried it and never knowing what could have been.

That was one memorable debut for Augustyn.

The French team has the first right of refusal concerning Kolodziejczak. I hope the PZPN does not screw this one up. If for what ever reason he won’t want to play for France, then that is when the PZPN should go after him. All the while making it publicly known that they would welcome him with open arms. They have to be careful not to step over any boundaries.

I don’t know if we’ll see Augustyn again this season… Catania’s regular centre backs are supposed to be two experienced Argentinian defenders, but one of them got injured so Augustyn got a chance to fill in. He was actually picked over a highly-rated Italian U-21 international… But after this performance, the Italian guy will probably move ahead of him in the hierarchy…
Still, Augustyn must be a good player since Bolton wanted to keep him and Catania was not the only Italian club that tried to sign him (I think there was also Torino and Reggina). He’ll get another chance eventually but it might not be this season.

Janota scored his third goal this season.

Apparently Blacha is very highly rated and Borussia was disappointed when Blacha chose to leave. But he probably made the right choice, he will develop faster playing in the 2nd Bundesliga than in Borussia’s 3rd division reserves.

Here are the call-ups for the newly created Poland U-23 team:
http://www.90minut.pl/news/100/news1008947-U-23-Powolania-na-mecz-z-Walia.html
Very poor squad… All the best players were either called up by Beenhakker to the senior squad, or by Zamilski to the U-21 team, so there’s not much left…

The only players who have a shot of someday being called up to the senior squad:
- Radoslaw Majewski who already has 5 senior caps
- Adam Stachowiak hasn’t been capped yet but is on the fringes of Beenhakker’s squad
- Krzysztof Krol – Beenhakker has mentioned that he’s keeping tabs on this player
- Mariusz Pawelec – 2 senior caps

An interesting fact: in general, the members of our U-21 squad tend to have a more steady place in their club’s starting XI than the U-23s… So I don’t really see a point in starting up a U-23 team.. in a few years, maybe, but not right now, we don’t have enough decent players left over.

Looks like Matuszeks move from Jagiellonia Bialystok to Odra Wodzislaw doesn’t came to an end. So he is still without a club – but actually he is on a trail with Piasta Gliwice.

We have noone playing anywhere decent. Look at Jozy Altoditore for the Americans first game in the PRemier league and he had an assit and should have had at least a goal. We have nonone near the ability of someone getting of the airplane and stepping in and playing well in the premiership.

@msudzi

I think you are being a bit harsh, Blaszczykowski would probably do well, along with Boruc or Fabianski if he didn’t play for Arsenal. Probably Obraniak as well.

Jelen too if he wasn’t always injured… He is held in high regard in France, the magazine France Football (they also give out the Ballon d’Or) ranked him 4th among all the strikers in Ligue 1.

Radek Majewski scored his first goal for Nottingham Forest, giving them a 2-1 win over Middlesbrough in the Carling Cup. He is playing regularly and is said to be improving with each game. I don’t know why he is not on Beenhakker’s extended list of players who have a chance to be called up for the September qualifiers..

Fabianski will start eventually, he signed that new deal and Arsene said he’s the keeper for the future – and the guy has an eye for young talent so I don’t doubt it. Boruc would do fine without question.

Kuba has the technical skill but I don’t know if he has the build to take the punishment of the EPL. Sure the bundesliga is physical in its own right, but he’s yet to not miss a significant time due to injury there.

Isnt majewski on the black list after the Lwow incident. He is probably not good enough to get himself off that list, unlike Boruc.

If so, c’mon, Majewski should have learned his lesson and he was just a kid. (isn’t he only 22 now? if that?)

Looks like the best possible team at the moment although i got few but’s…Krzynowek-to old, exc. experience there is nothing,he lost his speed and dribbling.Shadow of the player from last euro qualifiers.Lobodzinski-bench warmer,Malecki won his place in wisla first 11 and he should get his chance in senior national team,so what he is 21? Dudka-after he left wisla,he looks lost…every game,he is one to mess things up. I hope golanski is fit and ready, very good offence player, good runs, good crossing, good set piece taker.Wasyl a bit tougher, real warrior.
Sosin and sagan its misunderstanding.First plays somewhere in summer/holiday league on Cyprus and second plays for 3 div. club in england. Plus both of them are advanced players(around 30y old),they had their chances but time is ticking and we should look after fresh blood.Youngsters dont have to play full 90min. but short episodes could help them jump to senior level. Im very happy with obraniak show. You can see he is quality player, good pace, ball on 1 contact, great vision and big heart, great left foot.i think at the moment only bright light in our team. Roger-out of form, completly lost it.Kuba-fingers crossed he stays healty,if he does….FEAR!!!that what u see in irish eyes!!!he will run them over, sure thing. Krychowiak-never seen him playing, good cv though. He is in the team to help Ludo blend in the team, speaks french.Well i stay possitive and think we can beat them!!!2-0 POLSKA!!!!!!!!

PS.sorry for my grammar and spelling;)

Pawel, don’t worry about your grammar/spelling. Unfortunately, on Polish-language forums it’s normal to laugh at and even BAN posters who are unable to speak perfect Polish (yet somehow Poles have a reputation for being polite….)
However, that’s rarely the case on English-language forums. Instead of attacking another poster’s language skills, the other posters usually take into consideration the possibility that English might not be that person’s first language. I wish Polish forums would learn to be as understanding…

I agree with you on Dudka, I’ve never been impressed by him and the thought of him playing in central defense in the upcoming qualifiers fills me with dread… Auxerre fans think he’s a trainwreck… For those who know French:

Very nice goal by Kosowski for APOEL in Champs League.

Boruc had a decent game considering the final score. Made a few great saves. Got screwed on the first goal. The referee had no hesitation in awarding the penalty kick.

Lukas Jutkiewicz joined Motherwell on loan.

Pawel, don’t worry about the spelling there is always spell check. Thank God for spell check.

Both score lines, can’t blame them on Boruc. Arsenal is really strong in attack this year. Even in the first game: Boruc was on top of his game but there’s not much you can do when on the first goal he was in perfect positioning but it bounces off someones back and an own goal. Didn’t get a chance to see the 2nd leg, but hoping to see the highlights.

So Roger finally made the move to a bigger club in a stronger league. Can someone help me make sense of the transfer fee? 222,500 £ for a guy valued at around 3,000,000 £. If that is the case then Legia paid more to get him.

He only had half a season left on his contract that why the fee is so low.

Lech Poznan knocked out of the Europa League on penalties. They just aren’t a very strong team anymore. They need Smuda’s attacking style back. Oh well.

^Yes, Lech need Smuda and Murawski; Ebi would be nice there too. Getting rid of Smuda made no sense at all — the let down at the end of ‘09 in the Ekstraklasa should not have been given so much weight and a fairly positive UEFA cup run should have been considered as moving in the right direction.

For September qualifiers (if a may play ‘Beenhakker’ for a moment) …I like a few small adjustments to SD’s plan (third comment of this post):

Boruc
Wasilewski,Zewlakow,Dudka, Gancarczyk (sub in Kryz to end with spark and his lion heart)
M Lewy (D link); Murawski (O link)
Kuba; Obraniak; Ebi (sub in Roger to center mid into 2nd and Ludovic moves to left side)
R Lewy (sub in Brozek (~full second half; both strikers leave it all on the field and help to wear down the opposing D, which I think works better with Pawel finishing the game)

Using several of our guys/subbing them in as Leo did in the Greece, is a good plan for our boys – our team. Go Polska!

^BTW Smuda resigned himself, didn’t give a reason but personally I think because he wants to become Poland’s new coach, and Leo’s contract ends soon.

Also what the hell happened to R.Lewandowski? He has been absolutely crap during Lech’s matches against Brugge. It would be such a shame if he turns out to be just a one season wonder.

Also Smolarek has been linked with Hertha, would be hilarious to see him benching arrogant Wichniar.

Thanks Tomek I remember that kind of report; I’m sure i give too much weight to my own skepticism, which I still have because a lot of guys get the option to resign as a ‘compassionate’ first choice due to politics or someone in charge that decides “you’re out of here so we will let you resign’. I’m still skeptical because not many guys would choose unemployment, “a vacation to be more specific” over a chance for another European league run. Smuda didn’t have to quit to be in line for a National Team position; just like the players he is a better candidate while he is actively involved in the game – coaching.
