Positive News Before The Weekend.
I don’t have much to write about after what was rather a boring week in Polish football. Silence before the storm as we’re all waiting for the qualifying games against Northern Ireland and San Marino. However, I can at least give you some positive info before the weekend.
Kuba Blaszczykowski now almost certainly returns from an injury and should play in the game against Werder Bremen at the weekend. It’s about time as this will be his only game before the encounter against the Irish. No one really knows if he’s ready for ninety minutes of professional football. In my opinion, since his game is based on being dynamic, he must be well prepared physically in order to aid the Bialo Czerwoni. If he’s not fast enough he won’t do any good. What do you think, should Leo risk playing Kuba from the beginning straight after returning from a serious injury?
Pawel Brozek won’t have to undergo a surgery, at least for the time being. He’ll go through a rehabilitation process and the decision about surgery will be made after next medical examination. I hope surgeon’s intervention won’t be necessary, otherwise Brozek’s chances of a transfer abroad in the near future would be very slim. Come to think of it, even at the moment they are rather slim. I don’t think a lot of teams would risk acquiring a player who’s just gone through the most serious injury in his life. Not for the money that Wisla expects at least. As much as I would like to see Brozek in a foreign league, I don’t think any renowned club will come knocking this summer.
Mariusz Lewandowski played for ninety minutes in Shakhtar’s game against CSKA Moscow yesterday. I know that a lot of people don’t find Lewy Poland’s leading player, but the fact is that Leo considers him the crucial part of our midfield. It’s nice to see Lewandowski establishing a strong position at Shakhtar once again, especially considering Rafal Murawski’s average form recently. Lewy’s partner in the middle of the field isn’t playing as well as he used to last year; needless to say, it’s Tomasz Bandrowski who’s receiving most praise among Lech midfielders this year. I think we’ll have to count on Lewandowski to control the game for us against the Irish. Scary thought for some.
There was some talk recently about our team employing bodyguards for their trip to Northern Ireland. The main concern was for Artur Boruc’s security since the protestant fans hate him and, at the same time, Artie is well known for his controversial behaviour when it comes to protestanst vs. catholics clashes. Grzegorz Lato dismissed those rumours, there is no need to increase the pressure with acts like this. For those of you speaking Polish here’s Michal Pol’s nice note about the case (it’s Boruc’s opponents that need a bodyguard, he he).
Finally, there was an article on The Offside lately about the possibility of Howard Webb refereeing the Polish Cup final. I think it’s just a way of the cup’s titular sponsor (Remes) attracting attention. Stadion Slaski is booked for the final so the game must be well advertised in order to attract enough fans. Still, we won’t need Webb if Lech plays against Legia in the final.

Mariusz Lewasdowski is a goon. His presence on the pitch can be a good thing because he forces the other team to look over their shoulders at all times.
Howard Webb would be interesting. I don’t think anyone would do anything excessive and go as far as putting his safety in danger. All he will get is loud jeers and some name calling. Webb has nothing to worry about, he is a big time referee and I’m sure he has seen and heard it all before. The link in the last paragraph is a little too much. That dude has no knowledge of Polish football and he should leave it at that. He should keep his biased opinions to himself. Just probably another Brit who is looking to update his picture in the BIG BOOK of BRITISH SMILES.

I hope he gets jumped maybe thats just me.

as for mariusz lewandowski, he’s good enough to have no equals on the position of the DM. by this I mean we have no other DM that would give a performance better than lewy in the NT, or at a level of top (or close-to-the-top) european clubs. it’s easy to shine in ekstraklasa, but those local guys later are taken to the national team and are average, at best.
There is a reason to it, that no other Polish DM has equal status (good lague, top team, fraquency of playing instead of warming the bench).

You’re right Gregorio, it’s hard to find any player able to play on the level of M.Lewandowski at the moment. That’s why I often don’t understand the criticism aimed at him, maybe he never was and never will be spectacular, but he’s a player that is able to control the tempo of our play in the midfield. With Dudka playing at centre beck and Radomski virtually ending his professional career we don’t have another DM playing in a good foreign club. I think Leo is considering Tralka and Bandrowski as possible replacements for Lewy. Borysiuk, Salamon and Krychowiak seems the most interesting young prospects at the moment.
Jakub Wilk replaced Marcin Komorowski in the squad for N.Ireland and San Marino and will be our backup left back. He may even be useful for the second game as he’s a far more offensive player than Wawrzyniak.

I’m a fan of M. Lewandowski, and he looks to control the game well as mentioned and passes well. I like the dudes that play big, especially in the middle, he wins most the time when ‘push comes to shove’. He battles on his feet for the ball. I think the sliding fouls are more goonish and dangerous, I didn’t see him do that. He seems to be more fit than most and doesn’t get pushed off the ball easily at all. Does he have many more yellow and red cards than others?? You got to be careful battling in the box, because you can’t predict how the referee will see it (for example it is often the one pushing back or retaliating that is the one that gets the call against). I don’t get to see him play as much as you guys though, but this is my opinion based on ~ < dozen games and highlights.

I am not sure if this was mentioned anywhere, but have the new official Nike kits been revealed yet, or are we sticking with the ones for the previous game?

Another good day at Auxerre. Both Jelen and Dudka score! Auxerre 2-0 Le Mans. Smolarek was brought on to replace Elmander in the 90th minute. It’s almost embarrassing.

Our squad looks in pretty decent shape. Jelen is really in great form, five goals in eight games. Dudka hasn’t lost his place yet despite Auxerre fans being generally unimpressed with his performances. Maybe the goal this weekend will raise his confidence.
Blaszczu is a bit of a question mark.. Played only ten minutes this weekend and it seems Klopp (doesn’t that mean a toilet in Polish?! lol) warned Beenhakker to be “careful” with him, Kuba is apparently still “fragile”…

Janczyk has scored! This will hopefully secure his place in Lokeren’s starting line-up.

Jelen, Dudka and Wasilewski scored as well.

I’m really glad janczyk scored again despite being a substitute. even if he’s not going to become a starter (I guess he’s had some nice games in lokeren now, why isn’t he starting already?) and gets back to CSKA to be got rid of, he’s at least making the most of this loan. and he should be our 3rd striker in the NT instead of sosin

No, he started this game, as well as the previous match. By “secure” I meant “cement” his position as starting striker. Although, secure can also mean “to obtain” for the first time, sorry for the confusion.

Murawski has dropped out of the squad for Northern Ireland/San Marino; he’ll be replaced by Bandrowski..
