@drewsky - thanks for the reply (i wrote the above after a late night and several beers). Your reasons regarding kuba missing euro and half the year are good points and reasonable for you to vote for another. They ARE part of the reasons I voted for Murawski (see paradowski comment in previous article 12/25/08). The great thing about "The First Annual Polish World Cup Blog Awards" was we all got to vote! and have our say!

Kuba IS the Polish player of the year, and the majority here agreed because he is the Pole with the greatest skill. Artur the great was the best at euros but also had some 'hiccups' this year, (vs Slovakia, and that discipline issue after the teams' poor game vs. Ukraine; he should have enough money - he could have waited for another day if it was so important for him to party in the Ukraine).

You should find that people adding comments to this World Cup Blog do in fact know their football and especially Polish football and provide great information and opinions - that is why I tune-in!

It's hard to say anything about Salamon since probably none of us seen him play. I just hope there's some truth in those rumours, clubs on such a level don't usually waste time on mediocre players. You're right Zaraza, nobody mentions Salamon in the Polish press.

@ drewsky - your a weenie (what kind of comment was that). Expectations are always the basis of disappoint or jubilation. Your third statement makes no sense.

I can't say i'm overjoyed at hearing Real Madrid or Chelsea want to swoop for a 17 year old simply because it would be extremely difficult for him to break through to the first team. For many years. Unless he's a prodigy. I would almost prefer a West Ham, who has (had?) a fantastic youth academy and could potentially play the boy in the next couple seasons (especially because they seem to be destined to sell everyone else). We will see. On a good note, W. Szczesny will be returning to training in three weeks time.

Yeah, it seems most Polish football fans have never heard of him. But that's really the fault of the Polish media. It's really bizarre that they can write endless articles about players who are nowhere near the first team, yet completely overlook Salamon who sounds like he could be our biggest talent. No Polish player has ever managed to make his first team debut in a foreign league at such a young age. But no one in the Polish media reported it! Even after the foreign media started reporting interest from West Ham and Real Madrid about half a year ago, he's still gotten hardly any attention from the Polish media. Very weird. Usually there's a ton of media attention whenever a Polish talent is uncovered.

Clubcall is reporting a battle for Salamon:

Chelsea are locked in a tug of war with Spanish giants Real Madrid to sign Brescia midfield starlet Bartosz Salamon.

The 17-year-old Poland ace, who came up through the ranks at Lech Poznan, has only made two first-team appearances for the Serie B side but that has not deterred the Blues or Real.

Salamon, who made his debut at the end of last season, has done enough to catch the eye of two of Europe's biggest clubs and a battle is on the cards for his signature.

Salamon has also spent some time on trial with West Ham but they do not have the resources to compete and it looks to be a straight scrap between Chelsea and Real.

Bartosz Salamon is also the subject of tranfer rumors:

"Alongside Nsereko, a report in The Times this morning suggests that it will be a double swoop by the Hammers who are also interested in Bartosz Salamon, a 17-year-old central midfielder worth around 1.5 million euros.
According to IMScouting, the 6.3ft Polish player is a very very talented young midfielder, he's considered the new Marek Hamsik. A true playmaker, with good pace, excellent technical skills, great vision of the field, and great passes."
