Polish News Bits And Pieces.

No spectacular info to overshadow everything else in Polish football, so I’ll just shortly report the latest news. Ulatowski, Smolarek, Krzynowek and others.

Rafal Ulatowski is reported to be very close to becoming Leo Beenhakker’s assistant. Ulatowski worked in Zaglebie Lubin last season and finished 5th in the league, which was a very good result. Czeslaw Michniewicz, another media favourite for the assistant post, decided to take control of Arka Gdynia. ‘Polish Mourinho’ returns to coaching after almost a season’s break. That’s good news for Polish football as we need more and more young coaches gaining experience.

Ebi Smolarek still claims that he doesn’t want to leave Racing Santander and feels he’ll get his chance to play as Santander will take part in European competition. At the same time Racing’s president makes no mistery of the fact that he already agreed the transfer fee with Toulouse and now is only waiting for Ebi to accept the contract offer. That doesn’t look very well; Ebi clearly isn’t considered an indispensible player in Spain. On the other hand, Toulouse is also not a club of his dreams. Let’s hope that an offer comes that will satisfy everybody.

George Boateng chose Hull City over Celtic Glasgow. Why am I writing about it? Maybe, just maybe, it raises Mariusz Lewandowski’s chances for a transfer to Scotland. Lewy is a subject of transfer speculation every day, but so far there is no real offer on Shakhtar’s table. I’m really waiting to see Lewy in one of the Western leagues, I’m very curious how he’ll cope.

VFL Wolfsburg signed Bosnian left midfielder Zvjezdan Misimovic from FC Nurnberg. If Jacek Krzynowek thought he wasn’t playing enough last season he won’t be very happy with this addition of a new teammate. German journalist are confident that Misimovic is acquired to play in the first squad. As a result, Krzyniu may find it hard to even keep his place on the bench intact. I hope his manager is not an idiot and is already looking for a new club for Krzynek. Wisla Krakow anyone?

We finally know what happened to Real Madrid’s Krzysztof Krol. A player considered to be one of the most talented Polish left backs didn’t manage to win a place in Real B team and is about to sign a contract with Jagiellonia Bialystok. Another Real’s Pole, Szymon Matuszek, is to follow him. As a result, Kamil Glik will remain the sole Pole in Madrid. I don’t like this move; I knew that they were not good enough to ever play in Real’s first team but I hoped that they’ll manage to stay in Spain and play for a minor team in Primera Division or a good club in Segunda. A ‘real’ shame that.

If anyone’s interested, former Polish international Sebastian Mila is moving from LKS Lodz to Slask Wroclaw. Are there still any fans counting on him?

Jo was tranferred to Manchester City. Wagner Love is outside CSKA Moscow’s match squad after he didn’t put much effort in training. Why the hell am I writing this? It’s now or never for Dawid Janczyk to win a place in the first eleven. Come on Dawid!

Michal Janota was given nr 26 for his first training sessions with Feyennord’s senior team. He says that he wants nr 10 in the future. Ambitious boy this Michal. At the same time, Janota says that for now his goal is to qualify for Feyenoord’s training camp in August.

Adam Kokoszka still hasn’t signed a contract with anybody.

That’s all for now, stay tuned.

Krzysztof Krol reminds me of Blazej Augustyn last season. He was suppose to be Polands new center defender and start most games for Legia, and he started barely any. I’m really excited about the Janota prospect, just hope he doesnt blow his chance. Looks like my old favorite Janczyk will actually start starting for CSKA, too bad they suck now. Of course as you already started Krzynowek needs to transfer i could care less where I wish Legia but they wouldnt. But Wisla just seems to be falling apart too bad no one seems interested in Zienczuk.

So i read an interesting bit last night; an interview with Grant mentioning Boruc. He was apparently looking into bringing Boruc to Chelsea to cover for Cech. I don’t really think Boruc would make a good backup at this point, it would make him reckless, i think. But what interested me is Grant saying that no team is willing to spend 10-15 million pounds of a keeper. And that flabbergasts me. A keeper, especially a quality keeper, seems to me the soundest investment of all. More so then a striker, especially when a team builds from the back. Look at the Spurs for example. Berbatove and Keene scored a lot of goals, no doubt, but what did it get them? Very little other then the Carling Cup. So i’m just puzzled by the mentality of the Premier League. (and of course, i’m biased).

Another thing. I was watching Football Icons the other day. For those who don’t know what it is, in essence, it is a football reality show. They take hundreds of young kids (teenagers) from throughout the UK and put them though a variety of tests and paces and such, score them on their speed skill and such, whittle them down to finalists and finally a winner who is offered a contract at Chelsea. And i though, why couldn’t we do something similar in Poland? It would be cheap, would bring in decent ratings to the digital provider and could potentially unearth some gems. I for one would rather watch that then the soaps.

@Alek
The only difference between Krol and Augustyn is that the former played regularly for Polish youth teams (the same applies to Matuszek). I read an interview with Krol after he signed a contract with Jagiellonia and he said that he did it to catch Leo’s eye. Janota is still a mystery for me, but all the facts point to the conclusion that he’s a good prospect. Janczyk has to score in the next couple of games. Krzyniu has to go anywhere, Legia, Wisla or FC Koeln will do.
@M.Zurawski
I also read this interview with Grant. I think Boruc wouldn’t have agreed to move to Chelsea only to be Cech’s backup. At the moment, if somebody wants to but Boruc they have to prepare a lot of money and nr 1 shirt. Tottenham was an option but I read somewhere that they purchased Gomes from PSV. Aston Villa won’t spend as much money on a goalie. Milan is also out of contention. It seems that Boruc will stay in Glasgow and build his monument there.
This Footbal Icon programme seems to be a great idea. Apart from finding really talented youngsters it could also create a fashion for football in Poland. But the most important question for broad casters is: would it sell?
