Poland vs. FC Schaffhausen. The Fun Starts Here.

Today is the day of the first serious test for Polish players training in Donaueschingen, Germany. We are going to compete against a Swiss team FC Schaffhausen who play in the 2nd division. Even though Leo Beenhakker says that he treats this firendly just as an another training session it’s obvious that this game may prove crucial for some players.

I already wrote who, in my opinion, has to impress during the training camp. Today’s Przeglad Sportowy presents its view and lists six players that compete for three places in the squad. Adam Kokoszka and Jakub Wawrzyniak compete for the remaining defender spot, Michal Pazdan and Radoslaw Majewski for the midfielder spot, whereas the biggest rivalry among strikers is between Marek Saganowski and Tomasz Zahorski. I agree in terms of defenders, however I don’t know about midfielders. Pazdan is a defensive player and Majewski, on the other hamd, is a typical playmaker. I rather see Majewski competing with Lukasz Gargula, but PS writes that Gargula is going to be included in the ultimare squad because of his ability to play as a left midfielder. I also think that, when strikers are concerned, Radoslaw Matusiak can’t be sure of his final call up. He looked really poor in the last games of the season and it remains a mystery if he can revive under Leo.

Today’s game will give us at least partial answers to all those questions concerning our squad. All the players, apart from the ones that have just joined the team (Artur Boruc, Tomasz Kuszczak, Mariusz Lewandowski, Jakub Blaszczykowski, Jacek Krzynowek and Euzebiusz Smolarek), are to be given a chance today. The game will be televised by Polsat Sport so we’ll be able to judge Bialo Czerwoni’s form first-handedly. I’ll write a small note just after the game and a more comprehensive report tomorrow. Stay tuned.

Congratulations to Tomasz Kuszczak on winning the Champions League title (even though I strongly supported Chelsea, JT always in our hearts) and Artur Boruc on winning the SPL. I published a note writing off Celtic’s title chances some time ago but I’m really glad that the Celts proved me wrong. Oh, and the Boruc’s transfer to AC Milan won’t happen as the Italians already bought Hugo Lloris from Nice.

I’m beggining to think a move for Boruc is dubious considering Strachens comments a few days ago, but who knows. The politics of football are as macheviellian as the politics of the UN, maybe more. :)

I think that only a move to Premiership is possible at this point as only English clubs can satisfy Celtic’s demands. And Artie is very respected in Britain.
