Poland on the mission
Hello and welcome all of you who are looking for informations about polish football.
I believe I’ll be able to highlight ups and downs of our team. Also, make it more understandable for more prolific football nations.
So here we are on the top of group A, points away from favorities Portugal and Serbia. No one could believe it is possible when Poland lost its home opening game to Finland 1:3. Newly appointed coach Leo Benhaker seemed to be doomed at the very beggining of his tenure. After dissapointing World Cup fans expected revolution and more bravado from white and reds. Meanwhile second home game brought only one point from 1:1 draw to Serbia. Those two games proved how much had to be done to secure Poland first qualification to Euro. Although we were twice Worl Cup semi - finalist and formidable site in 70’s and 80’s we have never managed to participate in this tournament. The third home game against Portugal was crucial and as many Benhaker’s re-borned critics believed his last game. And then happened the miracle! Aware of mounting pressure both dutch - man and players cheered faitfull supporters with win over Fellipe Scolari side. Something has changed at that night, with other sides loosing points, Poland was back in the game that everyone believed has been already lost. Step by step, game after game, or rather clash after clash Poland has been collecting points that secured it first spot in the Group A. We are waiting now two extremely relevant home games with Kazakstan and Belgium. A liitle help from otehr teams plus six points will secure our place in Euro 2008, which would be historical achievemnet for Poland. Bearing in mind that UEFA has granted next tournament to joined candidacy of Poland and Ukraine, it would mean two consecutive qulifications for the country that has never participated in such a competition.
