O boy o boy o boy
O boy o boy o boy…here it is.
World Cup time. The literal kickoff of the greatest month-long holiday ever.
And, more specifically for the purposes of this blog and entry, Poland v. Ecuador.
FIFA’s preview (Why does this stuff always feel like propaganda? This is the way you will feel about the match…this is what you will talk about in the office tomorrow…) tells of “a clash of styles.”
O, and we’re informed that “the match … could go a long way to deciding which of these sides makes it through to the last 16.” Huh. Couldn’t that be said of essentially every first match and most matches in pool play? Edison Mendez (excellent name) wasn’t afraid to quote a hard stat: “Sixty per cent of our chances of going through to the next round rest on the Poland game.” Exactly sixty, dude?
And you want proof that Poland’s got this game won? Check out this definitive analysis provided by FIFA:
“Poland, meanwhile, have assembled a balanced squad packed with top quality footballers which coach Pawel Janas has moulded into a formidable unit. With the likes of Artur Boruc, Jacek Bak, Jacek Krzynowek and Maciej Zurawski making up the spine of the team, the Poles’ direct playing style makes them a difficult proposition for any side.”
Wow.
In all seriousness, i’d just like this thing to get started and all the analysis and hype can end now, please. No more articles, no more talk, no more blogging, and definitely no more nonsense about the Dude(k).
Meanwhile, all those interested in match here in Hungary are dissed. The local spewer — i’m sorry, i mean teevee station — of German-owned RTL Group teevee station (read: the idiots with the rights to Cup 2006) have decided that game will be shown only on “Sport Klub.” Sport Klub is a network that few care about in Budapest, and fewer have. You bastards! Grrr…
My recommendation: Check out the live blogging that’ll be happening through WorldCupBlog Ecuador.
I invite everyone to come back here tomorrow to check out some commentary on the match. I have an interesting idea and, in the words of the Pythons, i’d like to “put my head on the chopping block so you can kick it around a little bit.”
And speaking of that, well…
Let’s kick it, Bialo-czerwoni!

you have my sympathy regarding that local tv coverage in hungary…sounds like a major bummer [and a case of moronism]..
hmmm, normally i’d be confident about poland’s chances of winning that first match, however, the statement made by the coach of ecuador [i.e. "60% of our chances.."]..shows that ecuador shall take his game seriously…and poland might just lose by being overconfident…
oh crap, what am i saying..i mean i am polish for freak’s sake..
ha!..may my words turn to doo-doo [or 'caca' hehehe]..

Ecuador 2, Polonia 0
Great game!!!! What a result!!! To all the Polish fans that trash talk at Ecuador’s site, I salute you.
At least, Polonia can go home and enjoy the fact that they may suck at football but they had a great Pope and their sausage is among the best in the world… too bad their national side isn’t…
!Viva Ecuador! Si se puede!!!!

Yeah, sorry Poles. Maybe you got robbed one goal (wasn’t an offside). But so did Ecuador shortly thereafter when the score was still 1-0. Your goalie spilled the ball to an Ecuador forward and the ref called offside (yeah, i know, wtf!?).
Anyway, Ecuador deserved it. Instead of re-enacting their earlier meeting, Poland let in two goals and didn’t quite get on the board themselves.
