Mid Week Report: Save Of The Season From Fabianski, Goals From Gargula And Brozek.
Just a quick recap of what Bialo Czerwoni achieved in mid week games. Click for highlights, it’s worth it for Fabianski’s great save..
I just wrote in the last note that it’s a crucial time in Lukasz Fabianski’s career. The best thing he can do now is to be more than regular, to show something extraordinary. This is exactly what happenned in the League Cup game against Wigan. The best Fabianski save I’ve ever seen; in fact, it was so good that the normally polite Arsenal goalie decided to celebrate it with the most popular Polish swear word. No wonder Arsene Wenger says Fabianski uses his chance well.

Maybe we have a free kick specialist after all. Lukasz Gargula slowly returns to form that made him an important national team player two years ago. A sweet freekick; more of that against Ireland please.
Pawel Brozek remains as regular in scoring goals as Dawid Janczyk is in sitting on CSKA’s bench.
Other news: Michal Zewlakow is injured and won’t take part in the friendly against Ireland. Bartosz Bosacki was called up to replace him. I think we’ll finally see Tomasz Jodlowiec having a go at the international level football. Mariusz Lewandowski will be our captain in Zewlak’s absence.
It’s speculated that Lukasz Zaluska will become Artur Boruc’s successor at Celtic. The player himself doesn’t want to end up on the bench and says that he won’t move to the Bhoys if Artur stays there. At the same time, Zaluska doesnt’ rule out a possible transfer; he can be snapped by anyone for as little as 500,000 Euros (a release clause fee). A bargain if you ask me.
We’ll sign a new contract with a kit supplier next year; a one that is to be worth 30M € over four years. It’ll be visibly bigger than last one beacuse of our hosting the Euros in 2012. Both Puma and Nike are in contention. Puma had its share of nice kits (the one for 2002 World Cup is my favourite), but their latest designs failed to satisfy my taste (I don’t like the numbers’ font on our current shirt so much that I didn’t even buy it for the Euros). I wonder what Nike would do with our jersey. Who would you prefer?

Krol is not flashy but he is solid defender for his age. Jagiellonia did not losse a goal in last 4 matches and he is big part of this. Also I would like Leo to take a look at Szczot from Jaga. This guy is very good and he reminds me a bit of Kuba. He loves to drive on goal, good speed and nice shot.

Tomasz, thanks for your response. It’s disappointing to read that so many prospects don’t seem to be panning out. On a positive note though, I just checked up on Kokoszka and it appears he’s playing regularly for Empoli. Beenhakker should give him another look soon.
Something that the Polish media seems to have overlooked: Mateusz Siebert. He’s a 19 year old centerback, made his first appearance for Metz (League Two) about a month ago. He came on as a sub in the 25th minute against Chateauroux. Sounds like had a solid debut under difficult circumstances, lot of positive reviews on the Metz forum.

Krzysztof Trochowski wants to play for Poland. Does Podolski have a younger brother?
Tomasz, from the interview you posted the other day, my perception of Mariusz Lewandowski is negative because he reminds me a lot of Jacek Bak. I don’t see him being a respected leader of the team. It sort of reminds me of the Kuszczak attitude “I’m from Manchester United who the fuck are you?” I can’t see him dealing with these types of issues. I hope I’m wrong but no one would like to see another Bak.
On the current squad I like Kokoszka, Kowalczyk, Pazdan, Polczak, Dudka, Wojtkowiak, Bartczak. Mainly because they are young and can hold their own against the older players on the squad. As for the younger talent: Fojut, Grzegorz Krychowiak, Damian Rączka, Błażej Augustyn, Bartosz Salamon, and Lukas Olbrich. I agree with the other names mentioned as well.
@zaraza
Mateusz Siebert was born in Poland to a Polish mother and a French father. That all I’ve been able to gather on him. I don’t think he has gotten enough attention yet to declare what county he will play for.

I was really surprised that Mariusz Trochowski want to play for Poland, you’d think he would play for Germany like his brother. I wouldn’t really like to see Wojtkowiak in the nt, he gives away way too many penalties but once he can grow out of that then sure go ahead. It looks as though Mateusz Siebert picked Poland because he played for the France U-18 they the Poland U-19. And with the kits the old water mark one was just excellent I don’t understand why we changed it, and I never want to see Poland be sponsored by Nike its either Puma or Adidas or hell even Kappa is better.

I haven’t liked Puma’s designs lately. I thought the watermark was a nice idea but it just didn’t work. Non-Poles assumed the shirt was dirty or sweaty, they didn’t recognize that that was supposed to be an eagle… And I really hate the current design for the reason already mentioned, poor choice of font.

Could someone tell me what happened to Damian Gorawski??

Hieronim,
On 90minut.pl they’re saying Gorawski’s contract ends in December and his club just got relegated as well, so he’ll probably be returning to Poland.
Janota and Augustyn both played in the starting eleven this weekend. Kuszczak is now third choice at MU, Ben Foster took his place on the bench.

Zaraza, i’ve read it’s a matter of rotation. Fergie has said both will get playing time in anticipation of Van Der Sars retirement. Though honestly, it wouldn’t surprise me if you were correct due to Fergies ambitions for Foster in relation to the NT goal keeper job.

I think Kuszczak can only hope for Carling Cup games from now on, it’s very unlikely that he’ll be getting any more league games now that Foster has completely recovered. The main reason being the one you mentioned: Fergie seems very intent on Foster becoming England’s #1. The other reason is that it’s simply counterproductive to rotate three keepers, the defense needs to build an understanding with the keeper and that won’t happen if the manager keeps switching them.
Kokoszka is managing to hold on to his place in Empoli’s starting eleven. According to one article he was actually their best defender:
“KOKOSZKA 6,5 Il migliore della difesa. Attento e reattivo su ogni pallone.”

Whats the point of caring about Kuszczak? After being an ass over third choice I much prefer Zaluska how: actually plays (and weekly), he seems happy to just be in the squad, I think that even Dudek would be a better choice then Kuszczak any day, plus we have so many youngsters to look forward to instead like Krysiak or Szczesny.

Fergie favouring a player from the U.K, shocking… However, Kuszczak would not have been given a new contract if he did not fit into ManYoo’s plans, even as a backup. He is still fairly young and eventually will get a chance at the number one spot.
Anyone hear anything about Błażej Augustyn’s injury?

Augustyn tore a ligament in his knee and is going to have surgery at the end of the month, I don’t think he will play for a while though if you want to read it for yourself:
http://legia.com.pl/pl/index.php?view=2&nID=23095

It is sad when promising players choose money over playing time. Kuszczak, Dudek and Fabianski are all great goalies but they are hurting themselves by not playing. Where is their pride and ambition? If they can’t play for whatever reason they should demand from their teams to move on loan or transfer to some smaller club. That position is all about playing. You can’t get better on the practice field only. Kuszczak was great in WBA and he played vs. great competition there. What a hell he is learning now in MU? Nothing! He can’t be surprise that Leo can’t trust his form in NT and he never should bitch about it. It is his fault.

Well Fabianski seems like he is about to break into the first team after a string of bad performances by Almunia. Dudek is just past his prime anyway so it doesn’t matter where he plays he will only get worse.

dezerter, I totally agree with regards to Kuszczak and Fabianski, the practice pitch is definitely no substitute for real games. But as for Dudek, well he’s nearing retirement anyway so I can’t really blame him.
Too bad for Augustyn. Our players seem to have a lot of bad luck with injuries.

Speaking of bad luck, Wojciech Szczęsny apparently broke both his arms in a reserve game. I honestly don’t know what to say. I am stunned.
Roger seems to be getting a lot of interest around Europe. The latest rumour has him going to France, to either PSG or Nantes. The other teams interested are Ajax Amsterdam, Borussia Dortmund, Olympiacos CFP, and Bayern Munich. It looks like he will bring Legia a lot in return. I just hope he goes to a team to be part of the starting eleven.
There is also a lot in interest in Robert Lewandowski. Although Lech Poznan made it clear they don’t want to let him go. I’m sure they are just doing that to raise the price. There have been a lot of rumours but the one that has some credible sources has him going to Bayern Leverkusen.

Its beginning to seem like Poland can’t finish out games.

Poland defeats Ireland!
With some beatiful goals.
Too bad of the last 2 goals against us though, our defence really needs help.

Happy about the result of course and Rewan’s goal but I’m a little frustrated with some of Beenhakker’s decisions. Majewski should have gotten a chance here, he’s meant to be one of the future stars of the NT so now was the perfect time to blood him. If we get more injuries (which is always the case with the Polish NT), then we may be forced to rely him during some important matches but he won’t have much experience. It’s absolutely nonsensical to waste this friendly on players who are on the verge of retirement, some of whom (Krzynowek) don’t even play for their clubs.
Same with Bosacki, why waste this friendly on him, he’ll be retiring soon anyway, it’s a little too late to try to make him the backbone of our defense, especially since even Lech fans admit he’s declined a lot this season. This friendly was a great opportunity to give Jodlowiec more experience.

Krzynowek was good though. Jodlowiec wans’t however, lost a goal ’cause of him (He’s young though, maybe he’ll redeem himself)

Well it’s better that he gets these mistakes out of his system now during friendlies then later when we’re playing for points. Blaszczykowski himself was poor during his first few games but he got better with experience. I don’t know if that’ll be the case with Jodlowiec but we need to give players like him and Kokoszka a chance because we won’t be able to rely on Bosacki, Zewlakow, and Krzynowek for much longer. There’s no harm in giving them some experience during friendlies, it can only benefit us in the long run.

@ MarcinO
I heard about the Wojciech Szczęsny injury as well, but I heard that he got it from dropping a benchpress bar on himself in the team weightroom. He’ll be out for at least half a year…

First of all, Majewski is in a poor form recently; he receives medicre notes from the press, he can’t score a single goal, there are not many assists to his name. Gargula and Boguski are in better shape, they deserved to get the run in the first team in front of him. I think Majewski would’ve entered the field if it wasn’t for the fact that Leo really wanted to achieve a good result in Dublin. I hope we’ll see Maja in the upcoming friendlies; though he’s not making as big progress as I expected half a year ago.

It was an exciting game. They proved that the offence is not anaemic.
I hate to be a pessimist but I still don’t know why Krzynowek and Bosacki got the start. Yeah, you could say that Leo wasn’t taking any chances. We all know how sensitive he can get to media criticism. Krzynowek actually play rather well at times. Was Leo managing to save his job or just to impress Lato? I like that he expects better from the squad and that he wasn’t happy with the way the game finished.
The defence made the opposition look like superstars. They were strong in the second half up until about the 85th minute. I think that its up to Leo to get the players minds right and not let up at the end of games because of a lead. The midfield was very frustrating to watch. There was lot of terrible passes. Not surprisingly, Mariusz Lewandowski was the main culprit. I really believe that his skill set suits him better as defender. I would swap him with Dudka. I liked that Jodlowiec got a chance to play. Although the penalty was a bad foul, you don’t mind him making that mistake (once) in a friendly.
What a goal by Robert Lewandowski. The rest of the team played great. I was pleasantly surprised with Jakub Wawrzyniak. In the future, I would love to see Brozek matched up with R. Lewandowski up front and Kuba, Smolarek and Roger playing behind them. What can you say about Kuba. He was not fazed by the defensive pressure and did not lose his cool or dribble. That was Ireland’s tactic, to pressure the guy with the ball. It worked by causing problems for the defence.
I feel bad for Wojciech Szczęsny I hope that this won’t affect his development too much.
