Leo’s List Of Polish League Talents Leaked Out.
Today’s Przeglad Sportowy published an interesting list of players who are to be watched in the first rounds of the Polish league by Leo and his assistants. They are to be called up for a special training camp in Wronki in the beginning of August. I don’t know if it’s only a result of journalists’ imagination or if the list really comes from our national team staff. Either way, it’s quite interesting.
Here are players that are possibly considered by Leo a national team material:
Goalkeepers: Mariusz Pawelek (Wisla Krakow), Adam Stachowiak (Odra Wodzislaw), Sebastian Przyrowski (Polonia Warsaw, former Groclin Grodzisk)
Defenders: Piotr Brozek (Wisla), Grzegorz Bartczak (Zaglebie Lubin), Jakub Rzezniczak (Legia Warsaw), Tomasz Jodlowiec (Polonia W.), Piotr Polczak (Cracovia Krakow)
Midfielders: Rafal Boguski (Wisla), Szymon Pawlowski (Zaglebie), Maciej Iwanski (Legia), Maciej Rybus (Legia), Tomasz Bandrowski (Lech Poznan), Radoslaw Majewski (Polonia W.), Michal Pazdan (Gornik Zabrze), Piotr Kuklis (Widzew Lodz)
Attackers: Pawel Brozek (Wisla), Robert Lewandowski (Lech), Kamil Witkowski (Cracovia), Przemyslaw Pitry (Gornik)
Some new names and some old ones. Remember the ‘Time To Freshen Up The Squad’ articles that I published? Well, eight of the players I ‘recommended’ are here on the list (if some member of Polish nt staff wants to contact me please do so in the comments). Let’s have a closer look at the players:
Goalkeepers: good calls by Leo (or journalists). Przyrowski and Pawelek are currently the best Polish goalies in the league and Stachowiak is one of the most talented ones. At the same time, we’ve got the position covered for, like, next ten years with Boruc and Fabianski so it’ll be very hard for the guys from the Polish league to compete.
<Defenders: I’m glad that it wasn’t only me who saw the potential in Polczak. The sooner Leo has a closer look at him the better. Piotr Brozek is there because Leo is still struggling to find a proper (that is left footed) left back. Grzegorz Bartczak has been around the national team for the last year or so, but he is still unable to make that decisive leap forward. It may be even harder for him if he stays at relegated Zaglebie Lubin. Rzezniczak (pictured) was always considered a talent, now it’s high time to prove it, especially if he wins a competition at Legia with a new Spanish right back (Descarga). Jodlowiec was one of the league’s best central defenders last season. Where the hell is Kokoszka? Sorry, forgot he hasn’t got a club.
Midfielders: no surprise with regards to Majewski and Pazdan; they’re both very close to the ‘actual’ team. Bandrowski can be a new option at a defensive midfielder position, we need more depth there. Boguski is for me one of the most improved players of the last season and I feel he deserves a call up. Pawlowski is one of the stars of our youth team; the fact that his former coach, Rafal Ulatowski, is Leo’s new assistant will probably make his road to the nt shorter. Ulatowski is also a key when we consider Iwanski’s candidacy (Leo was never really convinced by him). I can’t see where exactly is Kuklis’ career going if he stays at 2nd division Widzew. He’s got the skills, but he’s rarely able to ’sell’ them on the pitch. I’m glad to see Rybus’ name there, he may be not yet ready for a senior cap, but he surely will be in 1-2 years time.
Attackers: as we’re not a nation that can choose between 10 high quality strikers we can’t write Pawel Brozek off. I hope Leo understands that. Robert Lewandowski is yet to debut in the league, but he’s already attracting the national team. Unbelievable career; for now it looks like he’s got everything to justify that hype. Both Witkowski and Pitry (pictured) are little-more-than-average league players, but they’re also ones in which Leo sees something special (as was the case with Zahorski). As far as I know, Witkowski is currently injured. Pitry, on the onther hand, impressed in Gornik’s pre-season friendlies.
There you are, nice candidates. Do you miss anyone on the list? I don’t really (well, maybe Adam Danch). As you can imagine, players like Roger, Lobodzinski, Murawski, Zahorski, Gargula or Wawrzyniak won’t have to prove their worth to Leo before the Ukraine friendly.
Otehr news: Przemyslaw Kazmierczak most defenitely signed a one year loan deal with Derby County. No Middlesbrough or Betis Seville then.
Leo treats Ludovic Obraniak’s case very seriously. He wants to watch the Lille player and give him a chance as soon as Obraniak receives Polish citizenship.
Jaroslaw Fojut has injury problems and he’ll renurn in a month’s time. Shit, this may have ruined his chances of playing regularly for Bolton this season.

Some of the players definitely deserve to get a chance like Pawelek (even impress me a hardcore Legia fan after the Liverpool game), Bartczak (long over due to call him up but now his situation sucks), Boguski, Iwanski, Rybus, Bandrowski. Others a a bit too young like Rzezniczak, Pazdan, Rybus, Lewandowski. Lewandowski is good ill give them that but i highly doubt if he is national team ready. The list doesnt seem to include any actual left mids except for Rybus so i have to question whether Leo is crazy enough to start him in any national caps with suck a role and no replacement, looks like this list has some truths but most likely also has allot of lies.

Your blog was quoted on Sports.pl, that is awesome. Congrats. From the list you have above I think Pitry and Lewandowski could develop into special players. Iwanski will not be able to handle the pressure of playing for Legia. As for Brozek it is make or break time. Either he will finally do something on the international level, whether it be for Wisla in Europe and/or the National Team or he will be a local starlet. I don’t think he has the cajones, but I want him to prove me wrong.

@Alek
I think there are both players for now and for the future on the list. Those for now are Bartczak, Brozek twins, Jodlowiec, Boguski, Iwanski, Bandrowski or Pitry. They’re just too old to give them more time. Guys like Polczak, Rybus, Majewski, Pazdan or Lewandowski may be called up with Euro 2012 in perspective. Although I think Majewski is ready to play in the upcoming qualifiers. I hope Leo won’t be afraid to risk. As for left mids, I think Pawlowski can play there as well.
@Tomek
Thanks, I was quite surprised when I saw that, especially when you consider the fact that it’s a blog entirely in English. I heard a lot of coaches saying great things about Pitry (e.g. Smuda); he supposedly is a world class in training. Now it’s his time to shine as he’ll most definetely play regularly for Gornik. Lewandowski will probably be a rotation player (Rengifo, Reiss) so I don’t expect him to be up there with top goalscorers. But I like the fact that Leo is reacting quickly in this case. I’ve got the same opinion about Brozek; he always strikes me as not fully determined in the interviews.
