[...] Poor Jerzy Dudek. First, Liverpool relegated him to collect dust on the sidelines. Then Polska’s immortal goalie Jan Tomaszewski questioned Dudek’s testosterone count. And now this…The goalkeeper isn’t even going to keep the bench warm in Germany next month (as has been the 33-year-old’s typical station in Liverpool this season); instead, he’ll be checking out the matches safe at home. Though media has called the absence of Dudek a “shock omission,” it ain’t necessarily so. With five genuine keepers contending for three spots, it had long been suspected that enthusiastic homeland favorite 21-year-old Lukas Fabianski (Legia Warsaw) would earn his first honest-to-Pele cap (Fabianski has appeared in two friendlies at the national level) with Coach Janas’ team. Plus, there’s always Dudek’s “performance” in the last Cup to remind Janas’ detractors. [...]

I remember watching (and re-watching) that Poland-US game many times...the Spanish language channel here in the US showed both teams as they lined up out of their locker rooms, ready to take the field. The determination in the eyes of the Polish players was just incredible! They all wanted to show that they were better than their record showed, while the US players had that scared deer in the headlights look, as if terrified of the chance of advancing out of the group stage. If Polish players had always played with the same kind of attitude that they displayed against the US, Poland might have been the World Cup champions at least two times already. But sadly, and I think it is some kind of a national trait, they're at their best when the casue has already been lost.

Krek,

Yes, i like Team Poland's chances this year, and i too believe them much improved over 2002, when i believe even lowly (but currently improving!) Hungary played them to a draw. I like the probable collection of strikers, but i worry about Dudek and Boruc, who seem to have problems in international play. And most fans whinge about the lack of defense...

Nevertheless, i'm picking Poland to get out of the group. If they don't slack off. Unfortunately, this means they draw England or Sweden in the knockout stage...who knows?

lol..i loved the way u finished off..."someone should tell our guys that the tournament’s over before Cup 2006 opens, and that Poland’s already been eliminated. Four cool, calm and collected matches later, and bam, Team Poland’s final eight.
"...our boys were way too nervous.i mean hey its been a while since our last appearance right?(in 2002 at least)..i think this team is a huge improvement from the last and i believe Boruc should be the man to start..
