Hallelujah! Adam Kokoszka May Actually Sign A Contract With Empoli. Plus Kuba’s Goal Against Bayern.
According to Gazeta Wyborcza and Italian journalists Adam Kokoszka may sign a contract with Empoli next week. This would be great news as one of the most talented Polish defenders would finally find a place to play and improve.
I’m watching Kokoszka’s case closely because I think it’s the most interesting transfer saga of the summer. Mainly because of his talent, but also because of the way he wants to leave Wisla Krakow (Webster’s rulling). I already ridiculed it as I thought it was stupid to start a conflict with your own club without having a serious offer from abroad in hand. Then Kokoszka went to be tested by Empoli, a Serie B club, which only added to my surprise and irritation. Fortunately, as reported by Gazeta, Kokoszka takes part in Empoli’s friendlies and is seriously condidered to play an important role there next season. As a result, the Italians want to offer him a contract next week. Now the hard part begins; we are yet to learn what’s Wisla’s stand. Will they let Kokos leave on Webster’s rulling (it isn’t obvious if the rulling applies here as Kokoszka received a raise half a year ago) or will they try to earn as much money as possible on his transfer? If the latter is the case it may be difficult to end this transfer saga soon enough for Kokoszka to play in the first part of the season. I just hope that the clubs will agree on the transfer fee and our defender’s career won’t be put on hold. By the way, Leo thinks that Italy is a perfect place for Kokoszka since it’s a league where top defenders are ‘produced’. How I would like his judgement to be correct.
Other news: Kuba Blaszczykowski scored a pretty goal for Dortmund in their Supercup win against Bayern Munich (2:1). Even Klinsmann was smiling. Good start for Kuba in what’s everyone expects to be his breakthrough season.
Ebi Smolarek is supposedly 4th on Olympiakos’ wish list, just behind Morientes, Ricardo Oliveira and Edu from Betis. A very nice company and a good excuse to write Polish player’s name in the same sentence with some really great footballers.
Polish league’s start is postponed until next week. Today’s stance is that Zaglebie Lubin won’t be brought back to the top flight. It’ll probably change 34-40 times until next friday.

Kokoszka was probably misled into thinking he had a concrete offer from that Serie A club that he was initially linked with (can’t remember the name). I can’t believe he would have started this whole saga for some second-division club…
Blazej Augustyn is also being tested by a Serie B club. He was rated very highly at Bolton (higher than Fojut), not sure what went wrong at Legia. He’s still only 20 though.
Janota scored two more goals in a pre-season friendly. But he doubts he’ll be getting playing time in this first team this season. If he’s just going to be playing in reserves it might be better to go on loan but it would have to be a top division club.

Bialkowski has seriously stagnated at Southampton. He failed to really threaten Kelvin Davis (who’s seen as a very poor keeper by many fans), and now Bartosz has been dropped to third-choice! Some 20 year old from Tottenham will challenge Davis for the top stop in the new season…
Side note: Michal Misiewicz a 17 yo Canadian youth international goalkeeper of Polish descent has joined Sunderland’s youth academy. Given that we’re well-stocked in keepers, I don’t see much sense in asking him to play for us.

@zaraza
I agree with you, it’s probably his manager’s thought; I also can’t imagine him starting this whole conflict only to play in Serie B. Augustyn was one of the biggest flops of last season, he won’t get any playing time at Legia so I hope he’ll get a contract elsewhere (Serie B is a fantastic option for him). As for Janota, regardless if he plays much this season or not what’s most important is that he proved that he’s got adequate potential. I’m now confident that he’ll get his chance sooner or later. That’s poor news about Bialkowski. When he made it to South’s 1st choice keeper more than 2 years ago I thought that we’ve got one of the biggest goalkeeping talents on our hands. Shame about his injuries.

Thanks Ustka, such comments make it worthwhile.

I think Zaraza that you are not right. If this young keeper Misiewicz is really good, Poland should give him chance to play for national team. I know we have super talent Szczesny, but beside him there is nobody. I think that every good player is pushing others to work harder.

If Misiewicz wants to play for Poland, he should be given a chance. But I’m trying to look at it from his perspective. He has a great chance to become #1 for Canada. But when you look at Poland, there’s Boruc, Kuszczak, and Fabianski who probably won’t retire for another decade, plus Szczesny and Krysiak. So I think it would be a difficult decision for him.
