Michal Globisz, the coach who's been training our youth teams for the last ten years or so, says that 2020 is the earliest date when a well developed footballer can come out of Poland. The distance between us and the Western Europe is supposedly that large. Globisz advices his youngsters to leave as early as possible. Still, I agree that some interesting players came out of the Polish league lately, mainly R.Lewandowski and Borysiuk, who I'm very impressed with. I'm yet to be convinced by Rybus.

@paradowski: It WAS like that, however the corruption sees to dissapear, and the league is improving. We are developing more and more youngsters who'll probably play in the national team one day. The PZPN still sucks yes, but I think that'll never change, no matter who's the leader there.

Not much to add, but want to say thanks tomasz for the steady pace on great articles/information. Zuraw's goal: maybe not spectacular, but a good read and nice take down on a tall ball, allowing the finish to look easy.

It is inconceivable that the PZPN and the Ekstraklasa do to not exist to develop talent and young talent. It is their 'bread and butter'. If in reality it is not, then yes, like mafia their fortune is based on corruption.

@Hieronim: Zewlakow is still our best defender IMO, while Zurawski became completely useless in the national team.

And yeah, the ekstraklasa has improved a lot in creating young talents.
It's not on the level of respectable leagues yet, but it's getting there.
Polish scouting really needs to improve on noticing young Poles playing in foreign leagues though (especially the German one).

@MarcinO

The Ekstraklasa doesn't do a terrible job with youth development, just a moderately poor job of it. Take for instance Legia, they have Rybus who starts most matches, Borysiuk did before he went off to play for the Poland U19 team. Wisla has Malecki, Polonia Warszawa/Groclin had Majewski (I say had because he isn't exactly that young anymore), and of course Lech has Lewandowski. They are all players I expect to see playing for the national team. I do think that there can be allot better job of scouting or training for Ekstraklasa teams but you cant say that its horrible, it can just be allot better.

what a hit by Rasiak! I hope that the Ludovic Obraniak situation can get worked out quickly. Why is that taking so long? I'd make that pretty much my number one priority. And why isn't Zewlakow in the same boat as Zurawski? I don't think he's the best choice for our captain...

I agree, the sooner our kids go abroad the better, as long as they remember where they were born. I have no faith in the Polish league developing talent or the mafia that is the PZPN. The Ekstraklasa does a terrible job in making the development of young players a priority. I’m tired of teams looking to scrubs to achieve short term goals. Meanwhile, our young players watch from the bench. That is why guys like Matusiak who wait too long to test themselves in stronger leagues have a tough time adapting to the speed and quality of the game in those leagues. We need as many young kids in good leagues as possible, considering the success rate of them living up to their potential (injuries, lack of playing time, etc). Considering his age, I’m concerned of where Brozek will decide to go.
