Finally, A Pole Scores For A Premiership Club.

Before you take the champagne out from the fridge or open the wine that has been waiting for this moment for the last 16 years I must disappoint you and say that it was only a League Cup goal. Still, 18 year old Tomasz Kupisz managed to get on the scoresheet for Wigan in their 4-0 victory over Notts County. And it was a pretty goal at the same time. Have a look.

Kupisz doesn’t stand much chance of playing in the Premiership, but who knows, maybe he’ll be given some time on the pitch if Wigan avoid relegation early in the season. A one to watch.

Good goal, Wigan fans describe Kupisz as their brightest prospect. Still, I seriously doubt he’ll get a real chance at Wigan. They’re always battling relegation and so are extremely reluctant to put youth on. I doubt they’ll even give him a few minutes at the end of matches.

Fojut needs to leave Bolton, they’re never going to give him a chance for the same reason as Wigan, they’re too terrified of relegation.

On the other hand, if they can’t win a place in the weakest teams where would they? I read an interview with Kupisz where he stated that he wants to play regularly till he’s twenty. If not, he’ll move somewhere else.

I’m not aware of any youth players who have won a place in these clubs in the last couple years. That doesn’t mean all of their youth are crap, simply clubs prefer experience above all. Not sure what they’re doing this season but last season Bolton preferred to bring in players from second-division French and German clubs instead of giving their youth a chance, they’re that risk-averse…

As for Bolton, I think two of their defenders (Nicky Hunt, Joey O’Brien) went through their youth system. You’re right, I can’t remember Wigan producing any young players. Cywka and Fojut made the bench this weekend, surprisingly Kupisz was left out of the squad. Janota is in the squad for today’s Feyenoord game.

No, it was Kupisz on the bench and Cywka was left out. The English keep mixing them up… Kupisz scored last week and Sky News gave credit to Cywka, Cywka went on loan to a couple seasons ago but the official Wigan website puts it in Kupisz’ profile, lol…

Yeah, I got the news from Sky Sports’ score centre. Kupisz’s presence makes more sense.
