Better Late Than Never: A Video Of Piszczek’s Uefa Cup Hattrick.

Not the most spectacular goals from Lukasz, but still an impressive display especially that he played in midfield. We’re waiting for more of the same in Bundesliga.

Extra: Two goals from Ireneusz Jelen in a friendly against Alfortville. Couldn’t spot Darek Dudka there, can you?

Dudka played as far as I know don’t know if he stared or not, but he should start once the league starts because well frankly Auxerre’s defence is shit after they sold half of it to Arsenal. But thanks to that maybe Wenger will notice Dudka and we will finally have a good outfield player in the Premier League.

I read today that Dudka is to play as a DMC in Auxerre. At the same time, he already played as a DC and DL in friendlies. He’ll probably be rotated between different positions. I’m confident he’ll play, he was Auxerre’s most expensive summer signing. Good enough for Arsenal? He, he, in a world were Slawomir Wojciechowski was transferred to Bayern I can believe in everything.

Given that this was Hertha’s highest ever European victory it also means that Piszczek is the first Hertha player to ever score a hat-trick in Europe.

While the goals weren’t that spectacular, the way Hertha assembled their attacks was quite impressive. The Moldovan side was just too bad in every area of the game to take any hint of how strong Hertha will actually turn out to be in the league this season, but you got a good insight on the way they intent to play. The video doesn’t really show the build-up to the goals and Piszczek was also involved in a few nice offensive moves throughout the game. Definitely one of Hertha’s best players that night. With just one goal and three assists he didn’t really impress last season, but maybe he can take the next step this year.

Piszczek really did blow last season but its his first season abroad and he still has allot of time to develop. Apparently whoever manages Hertha (I have no idea) sees something in Piszczek and keeps playing him. I wouldn’t be so understanding if my striker only scored once in twenty something matches. But you also have to remember that he is an incredibly universal player, he can play as a Forward, Attacking mid, wings, haven’t ever seen him play center mid but i bet he wouldn’t be too bad at it. So I’m guessing he didn’t play every game as a forward last season.

Hertha’s coach is Lucien Favre and the word polyvalent is one of his favorite words when talking about footballers - where polyvalent = universal player. Polyvalent players + a quick passing game are basically the core of his football philosophy, so a player like Piszczek seems to fit in nicely into his concept. In Piszezek’s defense I should also note that he started out last season as a sub and then became a regular starter later in the second half of the season. And two of his three assists and the one goal he scored all came in Hertha’s last five games, so his form curve was already on the rise. Nice to see that he kept his momentum.

To be honest, I was quite surprised that Piszczek played regularly in the second half of the season. He didn’t score any goals, but he was given chances week in week out (not something that Piotr Reiss or Bartosz Karwan would experience). I think it all comes down to his versatility; I heard that he was even tried as a right back. In the game against Moldovans he was a left winger, he played right winger on Euros and as a striker in his last season in Poland. A useful player, that’s all.
