Another Day, Another Injury.

The second player after Jakub Blaszczykowski that pulled out of Euros is our third choice keeper Tomasz Kuszczak. He had some back problems and is therefore unable to play. His replacement is Wojciech Kowalewski from Korona Kielce.

In times like this I’m really glad that we have such a huge choice of keepers. Imagine what the situation would be if Tomek was our first and only option. It’s a shame for Kuszczak, but at the same time Kowalewski deserved his call up (he learnt about it while grilling and chilling out in his home town Suwalki). Kowalewski was our first keeper at the beginning of qualifications and only problems with a place in Spartak Moscow’s squad prevented him from earning a call up in the first place. I feel confident about him; at the same time, if everything goes well, he won’t get any playing time. Get well soon Tomasz and welcome Wojciech.

Kuba Blaszczykowski didn’t suffer a new injury on Thursday, he just wasn’t able to recover in time from the last one. Our team’s doctor, Jerzy Grzywocz, said that there was no possibility that Kuba would be 100% fit for all the games. Such a shame.

This may seem like a silly question, but is it a requirement for the tourney to have three goalkeepers? If so, they yes, while it is unfortunate for Kuszczak, and i like him very much, it is not a tragedy. But if it is not, would it not be more advantageous to have another outfield player as opposed a third goalkeeper?

Also, now that the day is upon us, I really want to thank you Tomasz for all your hard work and informative information. You’ve really ran a wonderful blog here, at the cost i’m sure of a lot of time that could be used otherwise. So know that i, and everyone else no doubt, really appreciates it. I always look foreword to coming on here and seeing what you’ve cooked up. Thanks man. And now, let’s pray.

TODAY: Turkey shocks Portugal. The Czechs pillage three points off the Swiss. For the Sake of BWIN let is happen! :)

I don’t think there’s an obligation to take 3 keepers, but nobody will risk taking only two as you’d be in deep shit after one of your goalies is injured or receives a red card. I’m glad you really like the blog M.Zurawski, I hope I’m making it as interesting and entertaining as possible. And I enjoy writing it as much as you enjoy reading it.

It’s actually in the roster regulations for the tournament. 23 plays of which 3 must be goalkeepers. I’d give a page number but the regulation book is REALLY long. :)

Thanks for the info, I didn’t know that. I wonder if any coach would risk taking 2 goalies if there wasn’t such a rule.
