A Note That Was To Be……

October 30th, 2008 | By: tomasz | 15 Comments »

…..about the new president of Polish FA. Unfortunately, the elections are still under way, so I’m not going to be able to announce the winner here (next time I’ll access the page will probably be on Sunday). Two main candidates are Polish football legends: Grzegorz Lato and Zbigniew Boniek. The former is a sure winner, whereas the latter will, in all probability, become the vice president. Will this choice bring a change in Polish football? I wouldn’t neccessarily count on that.

Grzegorz Lato was a great footballer, but he’s one of the worst politicians that have ever encountered the Polish parliament. He was best known for not undertaking any legislative action or even giving a single speech during the four years he spent in the Senate. Doesn’t sound like a person who’ll have the energy to change Polish football, does it? The simple fact is that he’s not considered very intelligent. Zbigniew Boniek, on contrary, is one of the wisest Polish footballers. Still, he’s already been Polish FA’s vice president and his biggest achievment was selling TV rights to the Polish league. No youth training programme, no fighting against corruption, no building football pitches for youngsters have ever been of much interest to him. Both candidates didn’t present any clear election programmes, so I’m not able to comment on what they’ll do after being elected. Let’s hope for the best and be prepared for the worst.

Coming back to football, some Poles where on the scoresheet this week:

Grzegorz Rasiak’s goal from last weekend, a beauty as always

Przemyslaw “Kaz” Kazmierczak scores his first for Derby County

Artur Wichniarek’s seventh goal of the season

Just imagine, the players that scored this week are currently outside Poland’s squad. It only shows how good the ones picked by Leo are.

From those 2 I would definitely prefer Boniek. At least this man has connection in UEFA (Platini comes to mind) and he is opinionated. Having Lato for president of Polish FA would be a joke. This guy can’t even say one coherent sentence. Not to even mention abilities to speak few languages.

Ya Lato was elected which is disappointing, but hell maybe since hes back into a football environment then he may not be total shit. But it was 36 votes for Lato and 19 for Boniek. And maybe Leo will talk some sense into him he doesn’t do anything.

No hope. With this choice PZPN showed that no one wants any changes in this cesspool. F*** this! Our government needs to do something soon to fix this mess. Just say f*** off to Eufa and Fifa and send those pricks packing. I don’t mind sacrificing one world cup or stupid Euro 2012 in the name of moving in right direction. Lato is an idiot who will act as a puppet for Beton Guard. You can bet your ass.
With Ukraine bailing out on us on Euro sooner or latter they will take it away regardless.

dezerter, I agree with you, I want the government to step in and clean out this mess and stop worrying about whether FIFA and UEFA will ban us. It’s obvious that fighting corruption is at the bottom of FIFA’s list of priorities but we have no choice, the state of Polish football is unbelievable given that we’re one of the largest countries in Europe and there’s no sign of improvement, if anything the situation is getting worse. How is it possible that a nation of 40 million people was worried it couldn’t beat a small town like San Marino? And the state of our league is just as bad, we’re outranked by so many Europeans nations that are only a fraction of our size. If FIFA wants to ban us, fine, we don’t exactly have a lot to lose anyway.

With Arsenal letting in goals like they were just promoted from the championship I really cant tell why Fabianski hasn’t been given a chance, what else has to happen to for him to play?

Fabianski should have gone to a medium-sized club first, built a name for himself before trying his luck at a top club. Wenger’s more ready to give young players a chance than most managers but I don’t think that applies to keepers. I think Almunia will have to have quite a few disastrous performances before Fabian gets a chance. Same with Kuszczak. Van der Sar has a couple dodgy spells every season but Ferguson always keeps faith in him because he’s not entirely sure Kuszczak could do better. That’s the danger in going to a top club too soon.

Kupisz is not even making the bench for Wigan even though they say he’s their best player in the reserves. I think he and Cywka should move on, when was the last time a young player broke through at Wigan?

18 year old Polish striker PaweÅ‚ Wojciechowski debuted today in the Eredivisie and scored a goal! Young Polish players should be going to the Dutch league instead of mediocre English clubs like Wigan. Dutch clubs like Heerenveen and Feyenoord are excellent at youth development and they’re more likely to give young players a chance.

I read now that Real Madrid is going to bid 13 million euro for Blaszczykowski. I’d much rather see him at Liverpool since their best right wing is Kuyt. It seems like it would b extremely difficult for kuba to get into the starting 11 in Madrid.

Where did you read this? I couldn’t find any articles about this rumor on Google News, even when I click on all languages.
I agree with you though that Liverpool would probably be a better move.

Sorry guys for the lack of Squad Watch; I was to install an internet connection at my flat today but, well, it just didn’t happen. Shit. I’ll do my best to go to the library tomorrow.

I read that some English kid from the Wigan youth team has ties to Poland and has been contacted recently by the Polish FA. Has anyone else heard about this?

This may be a case of this guy just wanting to get the attention of the England team coaches. However, I hope that he genuinely wants to play for Poland.
